Out of curiosity I am on leave and watching alot of War films. I was just pondering if any players had ever done any movie spoof FOW Games for fun?

I've just watched "The Eagle has Landed" and the Idea of a Fallschirmjaeger reinforced platoon having a crack at an American Jeep Company in a Norfolk village has some appeal. I'm not talking "Where Eagles Dare" where a single SMG Command team neutralises an entire German Garrison of a Castle and surf's on the back of cable cars. I was just wondering if anyone had used movies for inspiration and a bit of fun?

When I first started reading your post, I thought "Oh yeah! Clint Eastwood", and then you clarified it later haha.

Anyway, I always thought that a fun one would be Enemy at the Gates, each team is given 1942 lists of infantry, armor, and sniper teams, where both the German and Russian player are given their Konig and Zeitzev.Never have done one myself, but then again, I just got into the game and my army is 1940 XD

Yeah that could work too. Stalingrad was the dirtiest fight in a long and horrendous period of war.

I think Kelly's Heroes is ripe for a send up as well. Dirty Dozen? a Cmd stand and 3 stands of 4 Infantry raiding a chateau? Give them a few of the raiding aces rules from Cassino?

Guns of Navarone? With a Commando Platoon. It might take a bit of license but I think some of these are achievable.

The FoW guys had an article up making Kelley's Heroes a playable force... Basically a pile of special characters (inlcuing Oddball's tank) with some over-the-top rules. (Don Rickel's character could buy rerolls by the player giving the opponent cash; the player got a bonus for singing the 'Burning Bridges' song used as a theme song in the movie; Oddball's pyschological warfare tank rules)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I should mention the Kelley's Heroes 'army briefing' was about as serious as GW's "Movie Marines" article.

Could 'The Eagle Has Landed' be done? Some stands of German FJ holding out in a village against waves of US troops whilst trying to get Steiner to kill Churchill?

I reckon it could be done, you would get 2 waves of US troops.

1st Wave - Col Pitts with (one maybe two) Jeep Recce units

2nd Wave - Captain Clarke with 3 Rifle platoons and a AA battery (2 x .50cal Half tracks).

I think you would need models for Mrs Grey, Col Steiner and Liam Devlin (on motorbike with shotgun!).

The FJ would be 2 x Platoons of only 2 sections.

Maybe two battles, one is the fight in Studly Marshes and the other Steiner trying to get in the Manor House. Maybe US/UK Guard units move using 2D6 and a scatter dice so the movement of Sentries is random. If they get within 2" they autocapture him, Steiner gets SMG and can re-roll assault.

For Balance, I would say all FJ platoons get Ambush, which combined with the 2iC Kampgruppe gives you 3 Ambush Platoons. Plus they have stormtrooper.

American Objective is to capture church. German Objective to hold as long as possible or even defeat US if possible.

So here is my mock up Steiners Polish Paratroopers.

I need to add in another couple of Command Stands, but you see the main composition. I was thinking of a nice special rule for the second wave. Which is "We will die as Fallschirmjaeger" which allows you to change all your British Para models for actual Fallschirmjaeger models once the 1st firing commences.

That sounds spot on, you've really given it some thought! I love the idea of the fighting around the church as the FJ's get forced back, would be cool to feature the mill too. Would be easy enough to do Mrs Grey, the Vicar etc. with some civilian models from peter pig. The random movement of sentries as Steiner closes in on Churchill is a good plan.

If the numbers were slightly lower, you might be better off adapting the rules from Partisans and Polizei. Unfortunately, unless you own a copy of Firestorm: Bagration, you probably don't have access to the rules. For some inexplicable reason, Battlefront has never made the rules available through any other source (I would have thought they'd have published the rules as a PDF by now).

English Russia.

Never done a flames of war spoof, don't play the game but I did do 'Sea of Sand' using Rapid fire rules that was a lot of fun, theres also another one we did (I don't rember the name of the film) but the whole film was about an american plane that had had it's wings shot off but could still move getting chased through the desert by a panzer IV. Bit of a wired one, but the game was very fun!

Oh man, the first monster I see I'm going to sneak up behind him, whip out my wand, and shoot my magic all over his ass.

That sounds hilarious. I think doing an EW version of the classic 1940's film Dunkirk. It has possibly one of the most disturbing portrayals of a Royal Artillery Battery in some woods bombarding a German Column advancing into France. The lost section jumps into the battery as a friendly unit looking for their own, they are told to leave after an hour or two. Stuka's come in after they leave and level the Woods. It's disturbing in that British matter fact style that all the War films of that period had. Like "We dive at Dawn" or "First of the few"....
