I have been exploring old games again and a Christmas rummage around the loft unveiled a copy of Sudden Strike (with expansions).
To my great suprise it loaded on to Vista no problem.
For those not in the know it's an isometric Realtime strategy WW2 game. You are given a brief at the start and shown a map with your objectives.
Then in a departure from other similar games there is no resource building, set forces are provided and realistic use of cover
LOS and range (albeit limited to tabletop scales). Tactic really are the order of the day and unsupported infantry or tank rush can take a terrible toll on your finite forces.
Anyway I'm just getting started on the first game (there seems to be 4 + expansions?) and three missions in have yet to refine decent tactics for taking occupied towns short of ample use of captured 122mm howitzers, mortars and followed up infantry and tanks. Losses are still high though.
I am really struggling with getting
LOS on the enemy before they target me.
Anyway if anyone would like to ruminate on tactics or just relive great victories in Sudden Strike here is the place to do it.
