Because it saves GW tons of money, and saves us tons of hassle, to have everything be cross-compatable. They aren't going to include two sets of each arm in every kit, and if they only included one it would be a logistical nightmare on our side to swap out weaponry for different mini's.

So it was going to be all right handed or all left handed. I think the choice here is obvious.

Sorry to harp, but really, think about this a bit more. Would you really WANT a couple of left handed weapons in your tac marine kit?! "Well, I'd like this guy to use a plasma pistol and power sword, but the plasma pistol is the left handed grip set, and the power sword is for the right handed grip set. Maybe I have a righty pistol in my bits box."

Suddenly it isn't enough to have the right type of wargear, you need the right grip. You have doubled the amount of bits necessary to get anything done.

Yuck.

The same reason all guardsmen are male, the same reason all marines use the same pattern of bolter, and the same reason there isn't more variation in the types of power armor used, i.e it's a model range, it doesn't represent the 'fluff' of the universe.

The same thing is true of real military models. Were all solders in wwII right handed? Obviously not. The model range doesn't represent real life.

I think with the orks they consider the shoota to be their 'secondary' weapon. They are still holding their main weapon in their right hand.

Righty. Obviously he considers the crow to be his real weapon.
