Hey guys,
told my bro I would paint a few of his Necrons. He really wanted a swamp theme, which I have been working on. I have the paint down, and I'll be adding some mud, reeds, and realistic water to the bases.
My two questions:
What is a good way to get a "just emerged from water" effect? Is the realistic water paintable (or dipable)?
How would I go about adding greenery covering the models like so: http://www.legionsgames.com/mastergallery/necron_terror.htm
Thanks.

The best place for large amounts of plants, good for swamps. is a local flower wholesale. Not sure how common they are, but there is one in my town, and they are very handy for cheap large amounts of plastic plants.

To me that just looks like standard grass mixed in some glue and smeared over the model. There's probably a special kind of clear paint for this (possibly water effects?)

I built this as a diorama set in a jungle back water...

I used Woodland Scenics' "Realistic Water" for the stream. They also make a product known as "Water Effects". This stuff is very thick like bathtub caulk and it dries very clear. What you could do is place the figure in the water and let everything set up nice and firm. Now add the Water Effects around the figure in a circle and using some sort of tool sculpt the effects into ripples and disturbed water. For water dripping off of the figure, say off it's weapon, take a piece of clear fishing line and tack on end to the muzzle and add the effects on it a layer at a time with it thicker at the top flowing down to the thickness of the line itself. Remember this stuff looks like white paint out of the bottle but dries very clear over time Unless you are going for real murky water I would tint just the first couple of layers of your water with Vallejo or Citadel inks and not add any color to the water effects at all. Splashes and disturbances in shallow water really have no color at all but you could mix up some white or grey paint into the water effects to get that foam sitting on the water near vegetation.

The static grass idea was great. I mixed a tad bit of plaster with static grass, some sewer water and green/black wash coloring from Secret Weapon, a little bit of water, and then a good bit of realistic water. I applied the resultant paste using my finger and the back of a paintbrush to the model, and I think it turned out very well. I then used the dropper bottle of realistic water to cover the model in water and allowed gravity to form the droplets. When it's dry and 24 hours, I'll post up a pic.
Thanks for your help guys.

Yeah, I find it impossible to take good pictures with even a good cell phone camera. I'll try and get access to a nicer camera and repost, but this should give you a decent idea.
Any and all critiques are welcome.
