I was just poking around on the GW site and found that all the Bretonnian articles have been removed except for 2. The last time I saw this happen to an army, it was right before the necron release in november, so could this mean that they are going to put out the new Bretonnian army book soon?

God I hope not! The Bret book plays just fine, it doesn't need GW to 'fix' it by removing all the magic items and generally messing things up... and then charging a TON for the new 'fixed' book.

I am on the fence about it; I just started Bret's, so I would love for the model range to be updated and for some of the points to be fixed(you can't field the king in a game smaller than 3K). I also just invested in the book, though, so another $35 isn't something I really want to shell out for things that aren't models.

Well if you look at the rumor release thing you will find Bretonnia does not even appear on the radar. Also Vulcan is right the book is fine. I have a spare one for trade if you are interested

Really? I thought they were one of the neglected obsolete. I never see any bretons anywhere.

Even if Wood Elves and Bretonnians deserve an update, it doesn't look like both will be released this year.

You never see Brets anywhere because they are a hard army to learn. They require precision and finesse to use, and are forever one mistake away from disaster. But if you know what you are doing, you can do very well with them indeed.

Those of us who are experienced Bret generals don't really want much of a change. Making the Brets easier to win with will make US over the top with them, and bring us back to the 6E days when Brets would just sweep forward in a massive charge and smash everything in front of us - infantry hordes, elites, monsters, whatever, if we charged, it died. And that's... not really all that fun, at the end of the day.

Yea. Even if the rumors of dwarves and empire are false, GW always loves to delay armies from getting updated

I mean 8th is all over the place. Orcs tend to always get updated, VC were somewhat recent (although I'd assume their release was due to TK and the WD stuff), and then TK and Ogres were somewhat neglected. For all we know, a beastmen book might even come around next year

Please god of the rumor mills hear my cry! Give us a new beast book that makes minotaurs core and keeps herdstone and beastbanner. Yours truly, Johnny

I really hope were not getting a new book. I justed ordered my army. On second thought id doubt they would remove kotr, m@a, pa, and trebs.

If anyone needs a new book its us...or at least an updated FAQ. It is very hard to win with Wood Elves in this edition against most armies out there today (especially demons). Whats killing us is ridiculous point costs for units and rules that just need changing!

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.

Vamps, Ogres, TK, and (to a lesser extent) O&G were all updated because of one thing - all had funky magic rules that did not work well in 8E. I'm expecting Dwarves to be up soon, because of their oddball magic item rules... and because they are the last army that can still declare a charge outside the movement phase (using an Anvil of Doom).

QFT.

GW looks to currently be fixing all those armies that really screw with the new magic phase;
- O&G's had their own unique miscast chart.

- Ogres & Tomb Kings had completely unique magic phases outside of the BRB rules.

- VC's could re-cast certain spells, easily add additional power dice and 'buy' specific spells. TK's & VC's also could use magic to charge outside of the normal turn order.

- Empire & Dwarfs can add obscene amounts of extra dispel dice by taking certain characters and/or rune combos. Dwarfs can easily ensure they have the max 12 dispel dice each phase.

- Warriors of Chaos can alter every single miscast roll, making it far too likely that their opponent's will explode or lose magic levels while they'll simply lose dice and maybe a wizard level. Heck, they can even play it where they can cause a wizard to auto-miscast and then alter the miscast roll!

While some armies like High Elves or Dark Elves can take a magic item or two that gives them additional dice, or else Daemons can take multiple 'Loremaster' characters, it's nowhere near as problematic as things like the old VC spam castings, or trying to take a magic relyant army like undead up against a Dwarf army with a near-assured 12 dispel dice pool.
My personal bet as to the update order for now;
- Empire
- WoC
- Dwarfs
- HE/DE/Lizzies
- HE/DE/Lizzies
- HE/DE/Lizzies
- Bret/WE
- Bret/WE
- Beastmen
- Skaven

Just my personal gut feeling and not in any way based on info or things of that sort.

Heh, it'd be funny if they nerfed the heck out of runesmiths/warrior priests and force people to drop them like stones

But yea so far rumors (even without Ghost) are pointing to empire/dwarves in the near future. Wouldn't be surprised

Though if brets do get updated soonish, maybe it'll motivate me to start an army. Although me being cheap, I'll just end up using historical models such as those lovely teutonic knights

Hmm if we do another escalation league by us next year i was planning on Wood Elves or Brets, more so that no one here plays them. I have heard of a few nasty Bret players in the state though...

Im not too sure about the rules needing or not needing an update because Im new to fantasy, but the models need a severe sorting out!

Im not buying anything that isnt plastic or resin ever again. Bretonian metal models are especially terrible. Nice banners and all that but the variation of poses are terrible. Is it not sort of standard at the moment for the plastics to stay the same and the metal models to be replaced amoungst any new units comming out with a new book?

Im going to make my own questing knights from a Kotr kit for the time being anyway.

Full on, Full on!
