just started dwarfs, so tell me....

is this a good 1000 point list???

i could also remove the bolt trower en make my unit of warriors into quarrelers (then they have crossbows, but only light armour...)

thane
great weapon
master rune of challenge (one use, target one enemy unit within 20'', this unit has to charge or flee)
rune of stone (+1 as, total 3+)
rune of recistance (re-roll as)

dwarfs 29 strong (with thane)
GW
full command

10 thunderers

cannon
engineer
rune of burning (flaming shots)
rune of reloading (may always shoot the next turn)

organ gun

grudge trower
engineer
rune of accuracy (re-roll scatter dice)

bolt trower
engineer

don't think, you have to know it if you want to be a commander

It's solid. Although I think you will be disappointed by 2 units, The thunderers and the bolt thrower. The cannon should be fine for your monster needs at this level so I think the bolt thrower is overkill and I think you'll find that the 1 organ gun performs better then the thunderers (organ gus auto hit) I almost want to say dump the thunderers for an extra organ gun, but having only 1 unit of troops would be tough. If you drop the thunderers and the bolt thrower try and squeeze in as many Quarrellers with great weapons as possible and they will generally perform better. Also I think the runesmith is a better general at this level, thane maybe more kiilly in combat but you'll find the great weapon warriors need no help in being killy.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Here're my two Warptokens:

- I'd consider a Runelord as a general. The Thane doesn't offer anything for magic defense, and the Runesmith is T4. A Runelord with: shield + Rune of Fire + Rune of Resistance + Rune of Stone is 178pts for T5 W3 2+ re-rollable armour +2 dispel dice and Flaming attacks to strip regeneration and cause Fear in horsies.

- Thunderers are not very good in 8th. I'd go with Quarrelers with great weapons. They're cheaper, have a longer range, and hit hard in close combat. At 1000pts, I've found them to be a serious threat.

- 4 War machines at 1000pts is way too many in my opinion. First, drop the Bolt Thrower, since it's basically never worth its points. Second, the standard Rune selection for Cannons is Forging and Burning, for a super-accurate monster-killer. For Grudgies, it's Accuracy and Penetration, with maybe Burning or a second Penetration.
A lot of people will tell you to drop the Engineers, but I'd strongly encourage you to keep one, and give him a pair of Pistols for 5pts. That way, you've got two Stand and Shoot! shots and one extra CC attack, which can make a big difference against those little units they'll send at him. The Cannon will probably be target #1, since it doesn't have a minimum range, so you might want to put the Engineer with the 'Thrower, but then again, you can use his BS4 with that grapeshot...

I'd drop the Organ Gun all together. Grudge Throwers are less reliable, but way more versatile and have a much larger range. The Organ Gun excels at taking out skirmishers, but for 120pts at this level, I'd say just get more bodies.
