Work on the 15 Assault Marines (3 squads of 5 lunatics each). I've got a nice technique for primarily airbrushed red now. The middle marine (one with the detail shots) was the test model. A few extra stages in there that I don't think are needed.
Main lesson learned: Vallejo German Red-Brown primer rocks. Hard.

Nice... Simple looking (in a good way), how I prefer my minatures to look in all honesty, not to keen on 'busy' minis (if you know what I mean)

That is a beautiful shade of red.

On a small note looks like a tiny mould line on the backpack exhaust there. Unlike you.

Total noob please go easy on me

Yeah, there are a few missed mould lines here and there on these. They're tabletop jobs, so I didn't spend hours on cleanup on things that can't really be seen in the flesh at normal distance (a couple of feet). The same's true of the Death Company I just did as well. Once it's all painted up you won't notice a lot of the small flaws.

I hide small flaws with weathering tbh.

First squad of three done. Damn decals took FOREVER to set properly. I still see the odd crinkle. By comparison I freehanded the skulls on the kneepads in about 25 minutes.

Just noticed a mistake - those kneepads are wrong. 1st squad is Tactical, not Assault.

May I ask where I can get those ruins like pieces to put on my base?

Cities of Death kits - mostly Basillica or Sanctum kits. Big pair of pliers. Chop chop.

Were there be dragons....

I love to hate Decals, avoid them as much as possible is my mote although I might just have to brak that when it comes to the couple hundred Byantium sheilds im gonna have to do soon O.o

Love the simplicity of the models, makes them stand out more somehow

WOW! Awesome job!

I am starting a Blood Angels army myself, so if I may ask... what other red tones did you use, besides the German Red Brown?????? And what yellow did you use for the helmets?????

Thanks!!

The red:
Vallejo German Red Brown Primer.
Zenithal highlight with VMA Scarlet Red, then a bit of VMC Panzer Aces New Wood in there (this stage can be skipped; minimal effect other than guide).
Devlan mud wash in recesses, badab black in very deep.
Layer highlight of GW Blood Red
Mix in VMC PA New Wood and continue blending up.
Edge highlight with VMC PA New Wood.
Glaze back where needed with a touch of Baal Red.

The Yellow:
Iyanden Darksun basecoat.
Gryphonne Sepia wash.
Layer highlight VMC Flat Yellow.
Edges VMC Light Yellow.
Extreme VMC Ice Yellow.

Now that's a detailed reply!! Thanks a lot!!

I don't like the usual GW schemes, with plain Blood Red and all... I was looking for a "darker" tone for my BA, and I really like yours

Oh, thank God - after your first post, I thought those yellowish touches (that's the New Wood, I assume, after reading later posts) of highlighting were one of those "few extra stages in there that [you didn't] think [were] needed." So very glad I was almost immediately proven wrong!

Fantastic work, as always. You continue to embarrass the majority of us with your "tabletop jobs."

Your painting is absolutely excellent. However, what I really like about them is how simple and uncluttered they are. A lot of the Blood Angels bits crank the bling to 11, and you did a great job limiting that to an accent bit or two per model. Also, the dynamic poses are superb. Great work!

No, but the zenithal stage was completely overwhelmed by the subsequent layering on of Blood Red, to the point where (providing you know what direction 'up' is) that you're basically replacing the same effect again by hand.

Next project - inverted assault marine. In the grim darkness of the far future, navigation equipment can still up.

Actually I'm really tempted to do a zero-g diorama, there's some awesome Maschinen Krieger Fireball dioramas kicking around.
