Back for another crack at a Necron build list. The group that I'll most likely be playing with plays at 2,000 points for casual games, but 1,750 for events. With that in mind, I'm building up a 1,750 point list which I then plan on growing to 2,000 later.

First, here's the 1,750 point incarnation (my build list)...

(HQ)
1 Necron Overlord 180pts
w/ Warscythe
in Catacomb Command Barge
w/ Gauss Cannon

Royal Court
Necron Lord 75pts
w/ Warscythe
w/ Resurrection Orb

Cryptek 55pts
Harbinger of Destruction
w/ Solar Pulse

Cryptek 60pts
Harbinger of Despair
w/ Veil of Darkness

(TROOPS)
10 Necron Immortals 170pts
w/ Tesla Carbines

10 Necron Immortals 170pts
w/ Gauss Blasters

17 Necron Warriors 336pts
with Ghost Ark

(ELITES)
1 C'tan Shard 215pts
Lord of Fire
Swarm of Spirit Dust

(FAST ATTACK)
7 Canoptek Scarab Swarms 105pts

(HEAVY SUPPORT)
1 Annihilation Barge 90pts

1 Annihilation Barge 90pts

1 Monolith 200pts

POINTS: 1,746

The general idea is to use the Warrior Squad with Ghost Ark and Cryptek to camp my home objectives, while having the Tesla Immortals with Orb Lord footslog their way into battle. The final Immortal Squad with VeilTek is a free element, though the using the Veil of Darkness to capture or contest late has crossed my mind. The C'Tan is intended as a support unit for one of the existing squads. I'm hoping that the volume of fire churned out by the Barges and Monolith will be enough to mess with my opponent's target priority. At 2k, I make the following changes...

(HQ)
1 Necron Overlord 180pts
w/ Warscythe
in Catacomb Command Barge
w/ Gauss Cannon

Royal Court
Necron Lord 75pts
w/ Warscythe
w/ Resurrection Orb

Cryptek 55pts
Harbinger of Destruction
w/ Solar Pulse

Cryptek 60pts
Harbinger of Despair
w/ Veil of Darkness

(TROOPS)
10 Necron Immortals 170pts
w/ Tesla Carbines

10 Necron Immortals 170pts
w/ Gauss Blasters

17 Necron Warriors 336pts
with Ghost Ark

(ELITES)
1 C'tan Shard 245pts
Grand Illusion
Swarm of Spirit Dust

(FAST ATTACK)
8 Canoptek Scarab Swarms 120pts

5 Canoptek Wraiths 200pts
w/ 2 Whip Coils
w/ 1 Particle Caster

(HEAVY SUPPORT)
1 Annihilation Barge 90pts

1 Annihilation Barge 90pts

1 Monolith 200pts

POINTS: 1,991

It's a pretty simple up-scale, adding a quintet of Canoptek Wraiths (with just a little bit of Wound Allocation potential), another Scarab base and swapping Lord of Fire in favor of Grand Illusion.

Not a fan of the C'Tan. IMO, he's just too slow and squishy (4++ only) to justify taking. You're basically paying 200+ points for Grand Illusion, if you ask me.

I'm assuming the Warriors will actually be chilling outside the Ghost Ark? Your list says that they're in it, but you can only fit 10 models in an Ark.

I do like the usage of the Monolith here though, as it gives your units an extra level of mobility (and might, just might, allow your C'Tan to get into combat).

I think the C'Tan works just fine in conjunction with the Mono. No one can shoot him if they can see him, and by the time they have dropped the mono and the C'Tan they have devoted a lot of anti vehicle weaponry at these two targets. Sure, the C'Tan hates poison shots, but who doesn't?

Also if you keep him close to your troops you will get most assault lists to hesitate before coming close.

Yeah, "In" is just how I identify a dedicated transport when I'm writing up a list. Sorry about the confusion .

I wanted to include the C'tan to give the list a Monstrous Creature punch, and because I wanted to add some visual variety to the list. I may actually swap out Swarm of Spirit Dust or Grand Illusion in the 2k list for Lord of Fire, because I believe that there will be some good synergy between Lord of Fire and the Monolith. It's untested of course, so it may accomplish absolutely nothing and turn out to be the first big cut that I make.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big proponent of using Monoliths and C'Tan together, it's just that your loadout for him doesn't seem to work for me.

Lord of Fire causes the gun to explode 1/6 shots, right? it doesn't seem so hot to me, pun intended. ;-)

A squad with a pair of meltas has a pretty good chance of taking down the monolith before one of their guns explode. I just don't know if that's something I want to count on to defend my monolith. Granted, there is other firing too, but still.

Well LofF by itself won't protect the Mono, but the AV 14, LofF, and Living Metal in aggragate work pretty swimmingly. Sure it's a 1/6 chance, but a melta squad with 3 shots has coin flip on losing one of its models. Take it consistently and opponents will start to hesitate, or at least save going after the mono for last (after using their melta safely on other targets). I also like the fact that LofF out ranges standard Melta range.
