How do you determine half-range for melta weapons with a blast weapon? Do you measure from the firer to the base of the small blast marker after rolling for scatter?

"If the weapon. . ." so from the firer, as I read it.

As with any unit you measure from the two closest points on each of their bases to see if they are within the range for the 2D6

I read that question backwards.

hehe. Oops, sorry.

To the location the blast was placed, iirc.
That is the actual range of the shot, which is why having the center hole out of range is an automatic miss.

For melta from the firing model to the closest point on the vehicle hit, the location of the blast marker is irrelevant.

You want to know if the vehicle you hit is within half the maximum range of the weapon you fired, so that's a measurement between the vehicle and the firer. The blast marker only comes into it for determining strength (possibly facing) and what was hit.

Wasn't this answered in the FAQ a little bit ago? I looked but couldn't find it, but I swear I saw a GW FAQ on this.....

The idea is that it takes extra effort and time to write properly, and they’d rather save the time. If you can still be understood, what’s the harm? While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

The closest I could find (and per the rules of YMDC, doesn't count) is out of the INAT FAQ:

IG.50B.01 – Q: How is the 'Melta' rule applied if the
Melta Cannon’s blast scatters?
A: If the blast hits a vehicle, after any scatter is resolved,
check range again from the weapon to the vehicle hit to see
if it is within half range or not [clarification].

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

THAT'S where it was!

I knew there was some reason I thought I was wrong even as I posted it and could not locate it.
(We tend to use it.)

Thank you!
