Subject: Alternative brushes to GW ones?

Hi guys,
I have been painting for about 20 years off and on and I have finally lost patience with GW brushes. They just dont cut it. No problem with the dry brushes and bigger ones but the detail brushes and particularly the standard brush are just rubbish and after a couple of uses they've lost point. Also I would like the brush fibres to be a bit firmer/shorter.
What are the "best" brushes on the market that serious painters use please? I am not an amazing painter but pretty good and am ready to get some good brushes. Is there a brand or a shop that comes highly recommended for miniature painting?
Thanks

I'm currently using Revels professional range I think. They are cheaper than army painter, and have a very similar triangular grip and have kept their point so far (About a month or two)
If you want something a bit more branded try army painter...they do sizes from drybrush to extreme detail...for eye's and such
Hope I helped,

Another vote for Winsor and Newton series 7s
First thing you need to buy is some brush soap and learn about brush care tho, your brushes will last for years with proper care or weeks without

Another vote for W+N, I invested in a size 000 and a size 3 (i think, not at home) and can do more of a model, and with greater accuracy with the big brush than the GW brush that is in theory much finer.

I actually use the Dick Blick knock offs, but I'm sure being in the UK the OP would just buy W&N.
The trick to good sable brushes is that they hold more paint, keep a tip longer, and generally work as well as a cheaper brush that's much small for detail work.

I actually prefer synthetic brushes (I am an oddity), but yeah got to go with the W&N here, I personal use the W&N Sudio Blue for acrylics.

Last year I did a bit of research into brushes, bought a few samples and then did a bit of experimenting.
The vast majority of people seemed to recommend the Windor & Newton's Series 7. The next most popular were those made by Raphael. I also came across a firm called Rosemary & Co.
The W&N's were pretty expensive, the Raphael's were about the same, perhaps a little bit more and I struggled to find many suppliers based in the UK, whilst the Rosemary & Co ones were by far the cheapest, from memory, I think they were about the same price as GW brushes.
From my experimenting (nothing too technical, just switching between them when I'm painting) I found that the W&N's are probably the best although there's not that much difference between them and the Raphael's. The Rosemary & Co ones probably aren't quite as good but they're pretty damn close which is impressive given the difference in prices.
If I was going to buy any more I'd probably plump for the W&N's but I'd seriously consider ordering from Rosemary & Co again, especially if I was a bit skint at the time.

I would recommend a size 0, size 1 and size 2. That should cover everything except large vehicles.

Windsor and Newtons from Ken Bromley Art Supplies. I use a 0, 1 and a 2 like above in particular the miniature series brushes which have a shorter bristle length.
