So I finally got to play some games to batrep after only gaming in tournies for a while. The first game was with my starter set space marine Blood Ravens versus Adam running an 1850 Eldar list I made for him.

Blood Ravens
Pedro Kantor
Librarian with Null Zone and Avenger
10 Terminators, 2 cyclones, 2 chainfists
2 venerable dreads, MM/SB and extra armor
2x10 tactical squads, lascannon/flamer, fist, las/plas razorback
5 scouts, snipers and missile launcher
2 MM attack bikes

Eldar
Eldrad
Yriel
3x5 fire dragons, tl shuriken cannon wave serpent
3x3 eldar jetbikes with shuriken cannon
9 dire avengers, defend/shimmershield exarch, tl scatter laser wave serpent
3x fire prisms with holofields

Mission is rolled up Pitched Battle/Sieze Ground, Adam's eldar win the roll for first turn/deployment.

Any Predictions?

I disagree... Eldar don't have enough AT to drop the SM player down fast enough...

Prediction:

Assuming that the Attack bikes are in reserve

Eldar T1:
Fortune 2 FD WS - Guide one FP
Blitz 3 WS forward with the non fortune'd on the outside of the line of fire with the DA serpent behind the three.
JB move forward and take pot shots at the laz/plaz - result of stunning one
FP shoot at laz/plaz - result one kill the other stunned/imobile

SM T1
Dreds move from behind the Laz/plaz to line up either DA WS or non Fortune'd FD - shoot non Fortune'd WS
Termies move up in a tight pack. Assume 4" as they started in cover - ML shoot non Fortune'd WS (high probability of kill as it moved flat out)
Both 5 man squads from laz plaz move forward flanking the termies - Run in shooting phase to get in front of termies
Both Las squads shoot at FPs - Intent to shake
Scouts shoot a bike squad

Eldar T2:
All depends on how well he saved

If the blood raven player gets rid of the fire prisms quick he should win IMO.

So I am not exactly happy with my deployment, as I know he has first turn and I have a few easy kill points (attack bikes, razorbacks) and he has Eldrad to redeploy. He kind of spreads himself on both flanks, so instead of risking a loaded flank that he promptly refuses I follow suit and spread to both flanks as well. He put the 3 bike units in reserve. Then he rolls a 3 for Eldrads redeployment power, which was the worst possible outcome for me, and moves his entire army over and away from my libby and pedro termie deathstar... sigh.

But then, I sieze the initiative! I may have a chance after all! So I start to move in, drop the bombardment, and fire all but the right side dread, who had to run. If you can see by the damage dice markers, I stun his wave serpent and fire prism on my right, and shake another. Not so hot, but at least no s10 ap1 twin linked death ray from 2 prisms.

Pics after my turn 1.

To explain the pics, the wave serpents with no guns on top (2 green, 1 black) are the scannon ones. He doesnt have those turrets yet, but the nicer green one with the scatter laser is eldrads dire avenger serpent. Yellow is fire prisms, though their metal turrets are damaged from wear and tear.

In his turn, he only gets 1 shot with the fire prism and some assorted s6 shots from the serpents--no firedragons yet. He only causes 1 wound to the attack bike and everything else is a failure. In responce, my still living bike moves up and detonates his stunned prism, immoblizes the other with missile fire from scouts/termies, and takes the weapon from the 3rd. So 1 KP to me so far. Also, the movement for the termies is low so I set a trend for being stuck in terrain all game with them.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Adam procedes to boost to my left side with most of his forces and kill both attack bikes, with the help of one of his bike squads that came in. The close razor gets stunned. He sends 5 fire dragons after the closest ven dread, but only manages 2 weapon destroyed results and shaken with the venerable and extra armor. In assault he wiffs with the 5 meltabombs. The tac squad spreads out from the stunned razor on my left to assault fire dragons in combat with the dread. They all die, so the tac squad spread in front of the dread. I take the weapon from his immoblized fire prism.

So he plays a bit conservatively here keeping the dire avengers and 2 fire dragons in the vehicle, my rear razor is immobed and loses the las cannon and the front one gets stunned again. The dread gets shaken but has no weapons. His 2 bike squads come on and snipe at the scouts, using the assault move to block most LOS to them from the building--but only 1 dies. In responce, my dread that has no weapons tries to assault his bikes, but fail the difficult terrain test sticking him in the center of the terrain. My termies shoot, getting the 2 missiles and 3 other models LOS through windows to the bikes, I kill 1 and they pass morale. I also wreck eldrads serpent and he gets pinned! He should have gotten out last turn to start wounding the 5 man las cannon tac squad. Still, my las tac squad is wounded thanks to shuriken serpent shots.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

With Eldrad pinned, he jumped behind the dread for rear shots and with help from some scannons kills it this turn with 3 immoblized/weapon results. He moved the black serpent behind me with the fire dragons in it, firing scannons into the wounded razor for no effect. The fire dragons get out and shoot to no effect at range, but have cover. The green serpent with fire dragons unload and with fire dragons and shuriken on my las cannon tac squad they still kill less than the whole squad. In retaliation, I dont really do much other than kill the one bike squad that went after my dread and the fire dragons that failed to take out my las cannon tac squad. In addition, I am stuck in combat with his fire dragons after shooting a flamer and pistol at them.

So on his last turn, he rams the still alive razor, but fails to kill it. The last fire prism that can shoot gets it though. The now unpinned Eldrad squad eat a tac squad with las cannon, and serpents dont do much. The bikes have been hiding, afraid of terminator counterfire. In addition, his fire dragons in with my full fist combat squad hold when my fist fails to cause any damage. As I seized, the game ends here. He got 2 attack bikes, the razor, the las combat squad, and 1 dread. I got 1 fire prism (the immoblized weapon destroyed one shrugged off all furhter missles tossed at it), eldrads serpent, and 2 fire dragons. Closer than I thought!

In the end, he played way too defensively, as I had no answer to Eldrad after he redeployed him on the other side of the table. The termies were stuck in terrain most of the early game, and late game just made it impossible for the eldar bikes to take out the scouts. Still, despite his defensive game, with some bad dice on both sides he squeeked out the kill points. I expected to lose by a bigger margin going second with some easy kill points in my Blood Raven list, but the sieze followed by his almost zero damage turn 1 and refusal to get out of vehicles for most of the game kept me in it.

What happened here with you Terminators is exactly why a large foot squad should take the Librarian with Gate and Null Zone. Gate would have let you drop in the middle of his far board edge without much risk and fire off some cyclone missiles. It also pins him in and you can always run to get into cover fora 4+ and to prevent prism template annoyingness.

Otherwise though, well played for the game.

Great batrep. I feel that your opponent made some bad decisions down the stretch.

Calypso I agree, this list would have benefited greatly if the termies were a bit more mobile. However, with no icons on the board I still would have to avoid danger close drops, but on my turn 2, with adam well and fully refusing my right side, I had a great opportunity to gate over to his left side, which at the least would let me assault is immobed fire prism.

Usually I put the libby in a razor, and use avenger combined with the tac squads flamer to soften up a target so its not suicide charging my 5 man + libby into them. Versus the Eldar, well a more agressive Eldar, I envisioned him targeting the razor and using dire avengers to crush the tac squad, picking up the libby in the process.

This is what always happens to me when I play Mechdar it seems. You want to hide and be sneaky, but the tanks are pretty big and stuff it getting to you eventually. I forget to think two step ahead and get cornered. Great report, too bad about the termies getting bogged down.

Also, is Yriel really necessary for this list?

powerklaw, in my mind Yriel is at home in a list like this one because of the combination of the large blast he brings and the s9 high init shooting/combat weapon. WIthout him, you dont really have the counterattack you may need.

For example, if this list is up against the new scarab swarms, I envision charging Yriel by himself into the swarm, and using the scarab pile in as well as the fact that each wound becomes 6 (3 for instant death, doubled for vulnerable to blasts) to blow them away. Its also good versus marines and the like, but really swarms and such were my main thoughts.
