Affordable!?

Geeze... so picky...

On a more serious note, GF9 sells a box of decent quality dirt road pieces for 15mm play. Unfortunately...

- Putting all of the pieces end to end doesn't stretch all the way across a 6 foot table (I think they might if it weren't for the fact that two of the pieces are curves).
- So far GF9 hasn't released any additional accessories for the road pieces. So no cross-roads, forks, etc... I don't think I need to explain why this might be a problem.
- The box runs for $45US, which, imo, is a bit steep. But I don't know what you're own personal opinion is on "affordable", and you might have a big enough budget to handle it.

I don't think it's what you're looking for, but I figured I'd mention it anyway.

I could afford it, but that seems a bit costly, escpecially with no forks or cross roads.

Thanks though.

Check out 'russlevy' on Ebay:

Paved Roads

I've gotten both road and river sets. They're well made, and look great on the table. Cheap, too.

Those don't look that bad. I was looking more for a resin or plastic set. I wish I could still get OoMoo around here, and then just cast my own.

Make your own they are easy as hell...

I went to a flooring store and asked if they had any off cuts for vinyl flooring, He gave a me a roll of it for nothing.... You go home cut out all your roads you could ever want with a box cutter....

Paint grey for a urban road... put little lines on it etc whatever you want.... Total cost? The grey paint which you could most likely get a gallon for a few bucks of boring grey....

I did rural roads for my eastern front..... All I did was paint the roads in white PVA glue, tossed a bunch of sand it on and let it dry....Next day painted it all brown, waited for it to dry. Painted the edges green and tossed some flock on it... dry. Done... Dirt roads for under $5

Ill post a picture later on I dont have any taken

Know what else works wonders? Go to somehwere that sells model trains. TO lay down th track, they use beveled trackbed, which comes in foam. Its cheap, and all you gotta do is glue down some sand, spray, drybrush, you are done.

Best of all? They got curves and crossroads.

Okay, Cheap and it works...Hear me out on this...

Sandpaper (Glass Paper).

It's ready textured, it's cheap (you get lots in a pack), and you can cutout sections as you see fit. If you want you can dry brush it and make it look better, and varnish it if you want the glossy wet asphalt look.

Weed ground wrap (garden Underlay) is quite good too...

You can texture it, paint it or use it as is.

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest!

I wasn't looking for dirt cheap, lol. I want to build one nice board for here in my basement for the in town fellas.

We're also playing Malifaux and Warhammer 40,000, but the terraclips terrain will take care of those game systems.

If you want NICE then you HAVE to build your own....

That way you can match the paints to your table design your flocks will match too....

Anything you can buy...... you can make better yourself. 95% of the time.....

I make my own walls, Fields, Roads, etc...

I only bought N scale Railway track and cork bed so far... I do plan on buying some King and Kerr buildings though they just seem like good bang for the buck to me.

Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it looks cheap. Seriously, if you make it yourself, over the whole board it can look awesome, rather than just pieces with join marks everywhere. Anyway it's upto you, but you will pay alot if you want a fairly decent setup.

I would recommend some Railway track, I don't know why but it just makes the whole battlefield feel more authentic.

40k roads look ridiculous in FOW and FOW Roads look like tarmac footpaths in 40k, the scales are awkward to make fit one another.

@ CKK - Was looking at those again last night. The problem I've noticed is that a.) they are no more affordable then the BF ones, b.) I would still need to buy the curves and straights, which are another $40.00 US and c.) they never seem to be in stock.

With some of the advise about constructing my own, I may make that happen.

Here's a PDF on how to make them out of shingles:

http://www.architectsofwar.com/Howto/roads.pdf

You could also try cork:

The shingles idea is very effective. the addition of craters and other debris to the roads is also very easily done.

Thanks for that link AS.

What a great idea. Why don't I think of these things! So simple and cheap but look great. I am going to try this one as soon as my current army is painted up. Thanks for posting mwnciboo. +1 kudos.
