It is a generally accepted mathmatical equation. Occasionally the variable green stuff is added to the equation with simular results represented as better obliterators.
Chaos Terminators + glue + green stuff+ crapton of random guns = better obliterators
With the addition of the variable green stuff you gain better bleding of man and machine and the appearance fleshy growths caused by demonic forces acting upon the host body. The variable green stuff is widely reveared in the warhammer world for its ability to increase the effectiveness of already time tested equations.

More like simple 2nd grade arithmetic than math.

I was expecting something using the square-root of -1 or something to do with statistical probability.

Your formula is off. It's AoBR Termies + Green Stuff + Crap-ton of different Guns = Oblits. Glue is optional.

It's from behind 'em, but you get the idea:

I'll look for another, better pic. ... a slightly better view of the guns?

Let's see.
Obliterators-75 points/model
guardsmen-5 points model
obliterates/guardsmen=15
so
(for i=0;i<(obliterators/guardsmen);i++){lasgunshot+=2.5)}

Ever thought 40k would be a lot better with bears?
