Hello all, new to the forums, long time lurker, first post, blah blah blah any way down to business
Personally, I preferred 6th edition (despite it's flaws, which were many) but that was the edition I was introduced to and initially learned so I may be a bit biased in my answer. On top of that, all armies have a 6th edition Army Book which is always nice, and I absolutely hate the segragation of Chaos.

Anyway, state your favorite edition of Warhammer and simply provide an explanation regarding your choice.

Different editions stand out for different reasons. 3rd edition is my favourite though it may not have been the smoothest playing experience.

Bloodthirsty Chaos Knight

3rd edition, partly because it was the first edition I played, but also while the rules were a bit clunkier it was balanced and £20 got you the rules and every army list you would ever need.

6th edition, when new models still looked cool. I also played more games in 6th edition than 7th or 8th combined.

I played through 6th 7th and 8th and I must say 8th is the best IMO

8th for me. Most rules make sense. Most not all. Play is more fluid and not so static like 5th was. I started with 5th so can't say anything about the previous ed's.
