Hey guys, I recently came up with some rules for myself as if I were a character in 40k and I was hoping to get some feedback/if you think the points cost is fair. For some background info, I love football and I work in a dental office, hence my weapons. Thanks for reading and let me know what you think!

Captain Sock

Points 100
WS 2
BS 5
S 3
T 3
W 2
I 3
A D6
Ld 10
Sv 6+/4++

Wargear: Football, Dental Instruments, High-Speed Suction.

Supreme Creator: Sock answers to no one, and freely chooses the army he wants to fight alongside on any given day. To represent this, any army may include Sock. If taken he counts as one of the HQ choices for the army but does not count as the mandatory HQ choice that is normally needed.

O, Mighty Evil One!: Sock is revered by friend and foe alike. To represent this, any enemy unit attempting to assault or shoot Sock or his unit must take a Leadership Test first. If the test is failed, the enemy is awestruck and may not attack that turn. They may not choose a new target to attack. Vehicles are assumed to have Leadership 10 for this test.

Fearless: Sock is Fearless and passes all Leadership and Pinning Tests automatically.

Independent Character: Sock is an Independent Character as described in the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook.

Weapons
Football: 24" S - AP - Assault 1

Notes:

1. Football: Roll to hit as normal, but don’t roll to wound or save. Any model hit with the Football must then pass it back to Sock using their BS. The throw back to Sock may not be re-rolled. If they miss, they are assumed to have overthrown Sock and have incurred his imminent wrath as he must go retrieve the ball. Fearing for their life, they are immediately removed from play.

2. Dental Instruments: These provide Sock with D6 attacks in close combat as he flails wildly with all manner of explorers and scalers. Any roll of 6 to hit incurs an automatic wound on the enemy.

3. High-Speed Suction: Sock turns the suction up to full-blast when he senses incoming attacks. The High-Speed Suction provides Sock with a 4+ Invulnerable Save.

on the forum. Obviously

So...he's a 100pt fearless model that can insta kill any target and has a 4+ invul save AND can stop enemies from charging AND Shooting?

I am sorry, but

Seriously dude, either give him a point increase or tone down the foot ball and get rid of the shooting immunity, cause that's just dumb.

Well thanks for the feedback. The football is something that I thought would be cool because it tests other models' BS whereas most HQ units excel in CC instead. In this sense the football is used kinda like a sniper rifle, but it's only really useful when going after CC oriented HQ units that are seperated from the rest of their army. I think dropping my BS to 4 and making the football Heavy 1 might balance it out a bit. As for the 4++ and "O, Mighty Evil One" rule, these are included to give me a bit more survivability as I'm only T3 and have 2 wounds, but maybe changing the rule so it only applies to shooting would be more fair. It's supposed to represent the fact that I built and painted the models that are shooting at me so lower Leadership models would have a tougher time rationalizing killing their creator.

I wrote up some rules for a Player. Seeing that we are untrained men and women in a world of super soldiers and lasers, I thought these rules would make us more support HQs than anything.

WS BS S T W I A LD SV
2 2 2 2 1 3 1 10 6+ 4+ Inv. save
Weapons/Armour: Laspistol, cc weapon, Nerd Clothes (Sweater, Snorgtee, Maclaren Shirt etc)
Unit Size: 1
Type: Infantry
Special Rules: Independent Character, Scouts, Gamer, Fugly, Single & Craving Love, Nerd Power, Nerd Leader.

Gamer: All friendly models within 18" of the player have LD 10 and a 4+ Invulnerable Save.
Fugly: Players cause Terror.
Single & Craving Love: ANY female (including aliens, daemons, and Necron females (if they actually make any)) miniatures within 6" of a Player (friend or foe) have their LD reduced to 3, thanks to the player's endless (and ineffective) wooing.
Nerd Power: Once per game, the player can count as:
Firing a Multi-Melat / Plasma cannon in the shooting phase,
'Teleport' himself + his unit 24" away in the movement,
Use Melta Bombs in CC if charging a vehicle / Monstrous creature,
Use Plasma grenades in CC if charging Infantry / beasts / cavalry / bikes / jetbikes.
Nerd Leader: If a player is killed, the opposing team gets 300 Victory points (or 1 objective, if you are playing an objective based game, or 2 kill points if you are using that method). Also, when the player is killed, place the large blast template over the model. ALL models (friend or foe) under the template suffer D6 Strength 8 attacks with no armour or cover saves allowed. vehicles are hit on rear armour. this represents the data overload of the dying player, and how powerless conventional armour is against sheer geekiness!

Many and varied forces in progress according to waxing & waning whims.

I may never finish an army in my life.

So, you're a dentist that likes football? Nice rules man.
Not balanced, but very cool.

For the luls, It's fine. Really. Make the football heavy 1, because that makes sense, but I don't see it as OP unless your opponent can't do wound allocation. (Yes, I know no wounds are taken, but it;s not like you have the deadshot rule).

Overall, it's a from me too. Have fun with it!

Thanks for the feedback everybody. It's nice to see that you guys liked my character, even if the rules are a bit unusual.

I love the football the most. If you can throw a football accurately while running then dont make it heavy.

As for the dentist rules, I would change them a bit. First, assaulting Sock requires a 3d6 ld check--no one wants to go to the dentist. Sock causes any unit he assaults to first take a morale check on 3d6--everyone puts off dental appointments when they come.

In assault however, instead of attacking with his scary assortment of dental weapons, Sock does no damage in the first round of any combat and one model may not attack. This model gets a routine cleaning, and doesnt know why he was so scared in the first place. Subsequent rounds are fought as normal, when the bill comes due.

@DevianID:

Haha while I think your rule changes would make me a bit OP, your comments about people not wanting to come to the dentist are spot on! I'll have to work those in when I finalize the rules.

LOL!

Ok, I have to get in on this. Here's me:

MR. SPOON!

Mr. Spoon costs 2 pts, and may be taken as an addition to a single Conscript Squad in any Imperial Guard army. He has the following profile:

WS . 2
BS .. 2
S .... 3
T .... 3
W ... 1
I ..... 3
A .... 1
Ld ... 5
Sv ... -

Unit Type: Infantry

Wargear: -

Special Rules: Encyclopaedic Knowledge, Unfit, Hit with the Ladies, Unlucky B*stard.

- Encyclopaedic Knowledge: A Conscript Squad that includes Mr. Spoon may pre-measure movement, shooting and/or assault distances, and gains the Preferred Enemy USR (all enemies).
- Unfit: If a Conscript Squad that includes Mr. Spoon attempts to Run, Mr. Spoon is automatically removed as a casualty.
- Hit with the Ladies: If Mr. Spoon is engaged in a combat that includes one or more female models, count both his WS and I values as 1.
- Unlucky B*stard: If an enemy unit inflicts wounds upon a Conscript Squad that includes Mr. Spoon (even if Mr. Spoon is locked in combat but not within 2" of a friendly model in base contact), Mr. Spoon must be allocated those wounds with the highest S values, and must always be allocated the maximum number of wounds possible.

Haha great ideas. This is an excellent thread.

Ludo:

(Whisky drinker, statistician, overweight, thinker)

WS 2
BS 2
S 3
T 3
W 1
I 4
A 1
Ld 7
Sv 6+

Weapons - master crafted kitchen knives.
Darts (range 6", S2 AP-)

Special rules:

"Have a sip of this"

Ludo may hand a hip flask of fine single malt to any IC. Usually, this is invigorating and inspiring. Occasionally, the character will sit down and have some more.

At the start of the turn, nominate an IC within 6" of Ludo. Roll a d6. On a roll of 2-6, the model is fearless for a turn. On a roll of 1, it may do nothing for a turn.

"Is that really what you think?"

Ludo is as likely to engage in philosophical debate as he is to engage in combat. Rather than fire a weapon, he may engage one enemy model within 6" in a deep discussion. Both models roll a d6 and add their initiative. The losing model may do nothing next turn, as it desperately tries to think of a clever comeback.

Statistician.

Ludo always works out the statistical likelihood of success of any attack before declaring it. Once per turn, he may substitute a dice roll for the statistically likely outcome. If you can't calculate this, you cannot use Ludo.

Bumbling charge.

Ludo is neither a warrior nor a sprinter, but he does carry a reasonable body mass and some enthusiasm. He always counts as moving through difficult terrain for the purpose of movement, but has the furious charge special rule in combat.

Points cost - 50pts, and a basic statistical knowledge.

LMAO I would definitely field Ludo and Spoon alongside Captain Sock, if only to annoy opponents with long philosophical discussions and threats of going to the dentist.

Store manager:

HQ choice. 50 pts

WS 3
BS 3
S 3
T 3
W 2
I 4
A 1
Ld 7
Sv 5+

Weapons:

Air freshener can. S3 AP - Template Causes pinning tests in any unit with the "Gamer" special rule.

Modelling tools. Close combat weapon. Counts as poisoned weapon (2+) against any model with Finecast components.

Special rules:

"Hey, why don't you try a new army?"

The store manager is an expert at convincing army generals to recruit units that are completely unrelated to those they normally field.

Any army including a store manager may take a single unit from any other codex, up to a value of 10% of the army points.

"Oh, never mind, we'll swap it for another"

The store manager will always replace a malfunctioning item on the battlefield. Misfiring guns, dodgy armour and broken power swords are swiftly swapped out.

Once per turn, a player fielding a store manager may re-roll a single die.

"Get that out of here!"

Needs no explanation. If an enemy model with a non-GW component is within 12" of a store manager, he develops the Rage special rule. In addition, he gains the preferred enemy rule against any model with components from Chapterhouse Studios.
