I'm more interested in seeing how this performs on precision platforms to push out further, myself. This would make things that are totally out of the shooters control (Winds changing completely during multi-second flight times, for example.) a lot easier to take out of the equation, if the laser can get a return at that range.

On a 50 cal machine gun? Seems like a waste of time, IMO. The point of a machine gun is to fire a crazy amount of shots so if one misses, you'll probably hit with another.

I'd like to see if they can figure out how to shoot them out of guns that are more precise in the first place. Like uh.....the mk15 Mod 0 sniper.

Carlos Hathcock made good use of a scoped M2 in Vietnam to make some truly amazing kills.

US snipers use the .50cal round all the time. Soooo a self guided round that can travel a mile would be fantastic. Not to mention Im sure it wouldnt take nearly as long to set the target with the round. Youve got to realize its not like the movies where a sniper tags targets a mile out in 1 shot, it usually takes a couple to do it.

and if one aimed ther weapon at the tank's exhaust pipe. (or any weak points) purposed that this bullet will travel through the weak spots and hit its engine (and subsequently destroys the tank itself) without goin' through armor. is it possible?

I doubt it would be able to maneuver so well that it could do that.

The bullet relies on a laser point on the target set by the shooter, I think. I don't think there's anything unique about the bullet itself, besides it having a bunch of microscopic stuff in it (which I'd imagine would compromise the integrity of the bullet at the ranges you'd be shooting from).


We have guided missiles on our apaches that work the same way (IIRC). They're brutal as heck

Or more likely, the CROWS system the weapon is mounted on, or a spotter in the sniping/AMR role. But from the description, yes: Something WILL have to be putting a laser on where the bullet is supposed to go.

No. Bullets move too fast for that.

the only problem i have with that is now US troops have a "MORE ACCURATE" way to kill British soldiers....
