What would be a cool xenos or creature that the Imperial Guard could use to strike down the enemies of the Imperium?

I know Kroot are employed sometimes as mercenaries aboard rogue traders and as bounty hunter but what could xenos creatures could be fighting along side guardsmen

Clarification, Ogyrgns and Ratlings are NOT xenos, they are mutants.

Sometimes humans may ally with aliens, but as for actually letting them join the IG...I very much doubt it would be allowed. Humans may include alien animals for specific roles - an example being the army in the book Straight Silver who have troops riding struthids (giant flightless birds).

Alliances usually seem to be regular forces working alongside mercenaries or temporary alliances of convenience. You already mentioned Kroot, and according to Wikipedia in the novel Kill Team a band of Ork mercenaries is mentioned, and I think there are other pieces of background suggesting Orks may fight for the Imperium if they're paid enough, but there is usually the risk of them turning on their employers after the battle. The Blood Axe Orks are known to have many dealings with humans, including trade (though if they suspect they're being cheated, the negotiations are likely to end messily). If you're looking for inspiration for models an Ork mercenary band working for the Imperium could be interesting, perhaps copying IG uniforms, ranks etc.

Similarly, other aliens may ally with humans for convenience (for example, Eldar working alongside the IG in the novel Ghostmaker, or the Space Marine and Necron alliance mentioned in the Blood Angel codex).

I've heard of Ork mercenaries but I'm pretty sure only Rogue Traders in fringe areas employ them

I'm sorry, what?

Why would Necrons ever ally with a living being, especially as hate seems to be the only emotion 99% of their race have. It's things like these and the new codex that kill the necrons for me :/

OT:
As mentioned previously IG would team up with anyone (under the right circumstances) so Kroot, arbites, Rogue traders, eldar corsairs, renegades (not CSM's but renegades.) As long as you can come up with a semi-realistic background, the sky is the limit.

Ergo, Hope is evil, and you should stop having it, but you can't have despair because then Nurgle gets a free ride. You could be angry about this, but that'd just get Khorne's jollies off. And heck you can't even get your own jollies off without Slaanesh giggling and farting out some daemons. And if you manage to avoid all that, some genestealers might infiltrate your planet and bring a hive fleet crashing down on you any way.

The new Necron codex certainly humanises them a lot more...the leader of the Necron army that teamed up with the Blood Angels is portrayed as feeling guilt over his role in creating the Necrons as they are now. Incidentally, Scotty, reagarding the IG allies GW agrees with you: the only army the Guard are never allowed to ally with in their doubles tournament is Tyranids (last page).

I think the new codex, and the "inteligent beyings with emotions and personalities" inside the Necrons is exact what made me start to think about them as a cool ideia, instead of silly... but that is taste...

Anyway, as part of IG? Aliens would be hardly accepted, maybe some irrational ones. As mercenaries? Well, whenever Inquisition is not right there, and the comissars are not mindless drones, mercenaries of any race could be used...

If my post show some BAD spelling issues, please forgive-me, english is not my natural language, and i never received formal education on it...
My take on Demiurgs (enjoy the reading):

Mindless xenos for pack animals etc maybe, but not actual thinking aliens. The whole point of the Imperium is to kill anything that's not human...

Ever thought 40k would be a lot better with bears?

"Xenos" really refers to sentient species/civilizations I believe. Imperium really doesn't launch crusades against water buffalo's with tentacles. Especially when one considers most Imperial worlds have their own unique indigenous life.

I once had a guy unleashing a mixture of Ogryns and unaltered Grox on Tyranids, but that's fluff I have made up. And it seems a bit beside the point.

Orks have been known to service from time to time in the Guard, Jokaro can, but that's more Inquisition, Eldar or Dark Eldar mercenaries maybe (neither is recommended), Kroot might and other races.
