Its just embarrassing to lose to your own successor Chapter My friend's Black Templar Chaplain gets as many wounds as my Captain, and he can choose to treat me as a preferred enemy. What tactics can a codex Chapter use against them? Any tips would be appreciated, thanks!

What I've got to choose from:
Captain w/power sword and bolter
Command squad (3 meltaguns, flamer, plasma pistol, power fist, apothecary, banner bearer, company champion)
Chaplain w/plasma pistol
Dreadnought w/multi-melta and storm bolter
2x 10 man Tactical (2 plasma pistol, power sword, flamer, plasma gun, m. launcher, plasma cannon)
2x 5 man Assault (2 plasma pistol, 2 power sword)
2x 5 man Devastators (2 lascannon, 3 heavy bolter, multi-melta, plasma cannon)
1x 5 man Terminators (power sword, heavy flamer, 4 storm bolter, 4 chainfist)
1x bike mounted Techmarine w power ax and servo arm

What I remember of his army:
Captain w terminator armour, power sword, storm bolter
Chaplain w jump pack, plasma pistol
Emperor's Champion w that huge sword
1x 5 man terminators w storm bolters and power fists
1x 5 man assault
2x 10 man tactical
dreadnought w assault cannon
land speeder
and he just picked up the BT chapter conversion kit, so he'll probably have a few extra special weapons to play with.

We usually run small 700 point games; I've been trying 2 tactical squads led by my Captain and his command squad. He usually throws in his termies, an assault squad led by his chaplain, and the Emperor's champ. My 'Fists are a packing an odd mix of weapons from an earlier armor-heavy match, and apparently the BT codex has some crazy rules.

If he's on foot, single out his HQs/troops/etc when you try to kill them off--they test at the end of your shooting phase, not every time they take wounds. If he has a Marshall/Castellan on the field, then they're taking his LD for all applicable checks. Kill them off when you can--they can also take teleport homers to precision guide in terminators. Make sure he's doing LD checks to shoot at units (at a -1 LD modifier) to shoot past the closest unit. If he's using vindicators with ex armor and PotMS, take them down asap--they can take a stun and still run forward and shoot, all for 163 points.

If he's running heavy mech, take a sternguard squad in a drop pod, all with combi-meltas. Combat squad them in and drop them behind their flanks. Enjoy the melta suicide squad, the ruiner of days.

Humans were put on this earth to fart around, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Not so fond of your models. At the very least bring some transportation for your squads.
There are numerous directions to go in. I guess ten man razorback spam with dev. squads covering would be the most obvious.
I think a MotF 6 shooty dread list would be awesome as Bt will struggle to bring enough high strength attacks in cc and weirdly look like to have limited shooting power in your friends list.

Well, from the tactics point of view, you need to stay back and shoot him first, decimating one unit heavily at a time. Reposition and be prepared when the BT units hit your front ranks.

Thanks for the solid advice all around. The posted list is really all I've got, so no sternguard or drop pod for me, and no transport either.

I was hoping my command squad would act as the shield wall for everyone else to shoot from behind, but the Templar player tends to swarm them with all his units, so I can't shoot until the assault resolves.

Sounds like the big answer is 'stand further back, and shoot them before they punch you'. I should have room to hit him with a devastator squad and re-position before he gets close enough to smack 'em. We're kind of ignoring army lists anyway, so maybe I'll just take a devastator squad instead of one of the tacticals.

Thanks again for the advice, and feel free to keep it coming!

I would suggest using your Assault Marines as a mobile counter-assault unit to give your Tacticals time to either pile in (on your terms) or move back farther and to continue shooting. Bear in mind, that his Tacticals are not as good as yours, they do not get the base 2 attacks that Vanilla Marines do (due to CC + BP).

Vanilla marines only have 1 attack base. They don't have a CCW.
