Hi,
the next Dark Elf army book release still is about a year in the future, but here some rumours that eldargal has heard:

4th February 2012:

Oki-slash-doki, I have more Dark Elf rumours, from the same source as the first lot and also wcorroborated with a reliable rumourmonger:
The rumours:
-plastic monster, possibly a hydra, not certain its for DE specifically which isn't a problem with SoM scrolls of binding
-plastic mounted character, possibly female
-dual kit chariot (this was mentioned by others already)
-plastic bolt thrower

Witch Elves, Black Guard and Executioners also all with extra coroboration. Late 2013 still the most likely slot for release.

A plastic hydra would be nice, the way GW are doing plastic kits it could really be big and dynamic. But they just Finecasterisated the old hydra (and the bolt thrower) so I felt this seemed a little odd. If the plasticKarl Franz/Griffon rider kit pans out it would be interesting to see if that impacts this rumour, a possible Morathi/Hellebron/generic hero kit? Just speculation. The dual chariot kit has been wishlisted/rumoured before, so nothing too new with that.

For the record I consider myself a rumour dissemination facilitator, not a rumourmonger. As always don't believe it until GW announces it.

17th November 2011:

I've heard from two sources within GW that they have seen work in progress CAD thingamies for Dark Elf plastics, of which Witch Elves were named specifically. Another kit was mentioned as being Black Guard or Executioners. There was also another plastic kit he didn't recognise and some plastic characters. I'm embarassed to admit I can't find the original email to check exactly what he said. I think there may have been some large plastic critter as well.
EDIT: The other source just mentioned Witch Elf CADs which he wasn't too impressed with.

I've had this corroborated by another rumourmonger who said it fits in with what he heard of Dark Elves coming in 2013 and CAD images meaning they are usually 18-24 months or so away from production.

As always, until pictures are leaked or GW sends out an email treat it as rumour not fact.

Seems like Raging Heroes is about to release a Regiment of Evil female Elves as well. There are rumours for a year, that Avatars of War is planning the same. The latter may be wishlisting though.

And remember, next release is still far in the future (first half 2013 probably).

I hate to point out the obvious, well-trod observation but... I guess this means dark elves before wood elves, then?

It doesn't much matter to me anymore, but it's a shame.

I'm still holding out hope that Dwarves don't get touched this edition, as I fear for the Rune system in the current environment of minimalist magic items...

NOOOOO! they're going to nerf down the magic items to nothing!

Bolt throwers had better come down in price if the hydra is going up. As it stands they are worthless.

New chariot kit will be cool, as will plastic elite infantry and some new characters. My main concern is that by scaling down magic items(VC went from 4 or 5 pages of items down to 9 total items) it will limit optimal character builds down to one or two options. I like the diversity one can have with characters in the current DE book.

Nerfing the hydra - AND releasing a plastic hydra kit at the same time seems like really odd timing.

If I were GW (hint, hint) I would release the plastic kit A.S.A.P., up the hydra allowance, and get it sold in ze millions.
... and then I would obviously nerf

Any DE release that does not include a replacement for the monkey-hand warriors and dark riders is a non-starter in my mind.

I don't think we'll see replacements for those, the HE ones or the very pathetic chaos marauders anytime this edition at least as the moulds "won't have made their money back yet" just like the first leeman russ mould never did acording to staff many moons ago.

I think them concentrating on more plastic/resin kits will be the way forward for them, with very few kits being redone at all if they're already a plastic boxed set. The only thing that will happen with them is changed to 10 per box and paying more overall per model the

Well the sprue for DE warriors are sets of 4, so they would have to make a new die for a sprue of 5 models which would cost a pretty penny. I don't foresee warriors being tampered with. elite infantry will quite likely be redone in plastic, which will be a welcome change(my black guard unit weighs a ton).

The biggest change DE will see will be in the magic items department, which will suck if VC are an indicator of things to come.
