Ok so if you drop a drop pod between between the squad on the right and the buildings, and he comes out and shoots, but the dread can't assault on the taus player movement can he walk past the dread to hit rear armour?

Not if there's not enough room for the Tau to move between the edge of the world and the Dreadnought. The base has to fit, and then there needs to be another 1" between the moving squad and the Dreadnought, so you'd need 45 mm.

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

As above.

You need to be able to stay more than 1" away from the dreadnought, AND not go off the edge of the table

Yes, the only time you are allowed to move within 1" of an enemy unit is during the assault phase, and even then there are restrictions.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Dread has the inertial guidance system so its hard to fall off the table at least I think we are playing it right.

Pods can still mishap by going off the table. The guidance system saves you from impassable terrain mishaps (which includes friendly/enemy models).

Or during a tank shock/ram.

As rigeld2 mentioned, you are playing that wrong. The Drop Pod prevents it from falling on another model or impassible terrain. However, it can still scatter into dangerous terrain, difficult terrain, or off the table.
