I have completed my all elf WE army for 2000 points (still to paint and pin... damn wardancers spears keep breaking) I have only played two games, third later in the week, but I wanted to say that they are immensely fun to play and my two games were quite close.

first game was against a WOC army, blood and glory, after a terrible first couple of turns that saw most my EG die and my mage run of the table it still only came down to the last combat as to whether who would win.

second game was a really stupid mistake on behalf, with my EG and highborn in a building do not send your high born to face a Hydra, don't know what I was thinking but only lost by about 50 VPs due to that mistake.

I just wanted to put this out there as everyone states how terrible WE are, just wanted to show that they can still compete, even without spirits,

I know two games and two losses is not much evidence but they were both very tight games against so called high tier armies.

Also I am having a lot of fun with an all elf army.

I agree man, I have been running an all elf army for a little while now (everyone started taking lots of magic weapons and flaming attacks vs. my forest spirits) and I felt a change was needed.

I have tried out most recently a "Sethalya" style WE list (basically fast moving super manouverable, all mounted list) against WOC and got a massacre! I will admit though my opponents list was a small Chaos Knight one so waywatchers did very well, basically with the Sethalya list I have found that against large horde armies (Skaven, Empire, ect.) It really struggles as you have very little hitting power. Other then that I run a Glade Guard, Wardancer list with the watchtower which has done okay (lost as much as I have won just about) with that list. It can be done but we need alot of luck and near perfect tactics. Glad to see Im not the only one running this list though

I play a mix of elves and spirits in my army. Out of curiosity, how are you guys taking out the high T and good Armor save units/models with pure elf lists? The machine gun highborn and waywatchers have never really worked for me.

So far its been with a little luck, and alot of shots/attacks going into one unit which isnt exactly the best strategy considering that we are outnumbered a good portion of the time, but then I have had alot of success with my waywatchers and machinegun highborn, last game I played I was fighting a Warriors of Chaos army which had 12 Knights of khorne in it. Needless to say after some forty odd glade guard shots I killed 1 or 2 from each unit but then my waywatchers got 4 killing blows in one volley @ one unit and I just kept shooting. Also by using wardancers they can hit pretty hard at being +1 Strength and Attack on the charge especially giving them the killing blow dance and have had a little success with them. But it is a challenge, I got absolutely steamrolled by Ogres a few days earlier so it does have its drawbacks, Ill probably go "Sethalya" style elves next time against ogres.

I'm glad the waywatchers worked for you, such beautiful models, but I tend to not roll a lot of 6's. Haven't played the new Ogres yet, but I am nervous. . .

With Ogres since you run forest spirits you have a shot at hanging with him, especially since you have a high enough strength to deal with his units. You dont really have to be wary of their magic just do NOT ever let them get their 4+ regeneration bubble spell off, game I had would have been alot different if he didnt keep casting that with irresistible force. Best advice would be to shoot them/magic them as much as possible before hitting with your treekin and treemen. Dryads would be good to since they are strength 4 but would probably be better off hitting the flank of a unit with treekin in the front, good thing about Ogres is that they usually dont have alot of units so we have somewhat of an advantage since we can out manouver them. Hope this helps.

Update, Victory for my Elves..... played a Skaven army and it was a Landslide, only lost my highborn who fluffed in a challenge and my waywatcher and wardancers but only after they had done their job.

I am ok with high armour save models, my EG have the Razor Banner and my waywatchers and wadancers have served me well with their KB attacks,

I am nervous about facing ogres, the only real problem that I struggle to answer is their Ironblasters, the only thing I can think of is a lucky Amber Spear (beasts has been working well so far but might trial life)

I have also fielded the mix army a couple of times but got a bit bored with the standard build of Treekin + Lifeweaver (nothing to do with the fact I need to reassemble my Treekin after they broke during moving house )

I am very pleased with how my list is working, not tried the machine gun noble yet as my highborn has the Harp which has proven very useful.

Update, 2 big Victories for my pure Asrai Wood Elves as well...actually it was more of a Massacre for my Sethalya style Wood Elves against my twin brothers Empire and a local Warriors of Chaos player! My waywatchers have been HUGE for me the past two games. Running two units of between 5-8 waywatchers they have killed 12 chaos knights and 5 pistoleers and a few warmachines (highlight was when I rolled 4 killing blows against 1 unit of Chaos knights!). Besides that running several small units of Glade Guard and Glade Riders with some Characters mounted on Great Eagles really frustrated both oppoents as they couldnt catch me and the Warriors of Chaos player even had the audacity to say "Never want to play this list ever again"

Alright, you guys got me itching to pull out the waywatchers out.

Are you both playing eternal guard? I have actually had a lot of success with mine despite what the naysayers say.

I am not playing any eternal guard in my army at all. I have been going with the "Sethalya" WE list which means everything mounted, super maneuverable, catch me if you can, tick my opponent off to know end list . I run high numbers of Wardancers in my list as they can hit hard against most standard infantry and can run and reform for free. I used to run the Eternal Guard block with Razor Banner and Rhymers harp which is a very good build with them but I had bad luck when they would get targeted by magic and warmachines and I would rather have points put into magic defense. Dont get me wrong I am a huge fan of Eternal Guard but whenever I have played with them they have always just come up short or been blown to bits before doing anything
