As a big fan of Steel Panthers and its various versions, I've been looking to expand into Historical Miniatures (mainly cause it looks to be the only decent TT apart from 40k and Fantasy.).
My problem however, is that I am most interested in the Pacific Front, which doesn't appear to be in Flames of War. Is there a decent historical system that does include it? I don't mind if Ships/Aircraft arent really present in it. I'd just like to field an Imperial Japanese Army with some Type-95 Ha-Gos and such.
I'm not really much interested in Eastern Front or the European Front

If you buy pacific minis from peter pig miniatures you can just use the rules from FOW. Hope this helps.

I don't think FoW has an official, supported Pacific briefing, but there's some fan-made briefings around. otherwise you'd need to roll your own stats.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

I think there have been rumors that the Vietnam ruleset is at least partially the groundwork for Pacific rules - one side with all the toys and experienced troops (i.e., Marines), the other with ambushes and the oh-god-they-just-keep-coming mentality.

It'll happen officially for FoW in the next few years. I don't think it will happen in 2012 due to the need for V3 to settle, along with The Bulge and Barbarossa.
But FoW is a WWII game, and Vietnam has pretty much gotten that style of warfare down in the FoW rules, with the benefit of the Pacific having some more up front fights instead of all ambushing all the time.

That website is a nightmare to look through. As far as I see it hes good for Inf, but I can only see one model of tank, the Type-97 Te- Ke. Its decent enough, I might pick some up. Still need Ha-Gos/Chi-Has though.

I'll probably have to just use custom rules, cause thats a bit too long of a wait.

I too am chomping at the bit for IJN and IJA troops.
I already play FOW, and can tell you while Peter Pig has the guys covered, if you hunt around, a brit company makes the tanks. They aren't the best sculpts in the entire world, but hey, get a 1/144 scale Aichi Val as your plane and you are golden. FoW is still good even if your interest doesnt lie there, like me. I learned to like the Desert, since palm trees are palm trees, my Pacific terrain is already half started!!

I'll probably pick up an Italian army to play while I wait. They look decent enough to play as.

You could collect 15mm figures for the Pacific War but not use Battlefront/ FOW. There are a multitude of great WW2 rule sets out there suitable for use with 15mm figs, so if battlefront haven’t released it yet that doesn’t have to be an issue, unless of course your group is FOW only.
My personal favorite is Blitzkrieg Commander. It has no supplements, just one rulebook that contains all the stats/points values you need. It’s similar to Warmaster in that you purchase the units and then organize them into units as you see fit. It’s a little abstract in this regard and so it’s up to you to research the historically accurate unit organizations. That has a certain appeal to Wargamers that don’t like to be spoonfed but it’s not for everyone.
I hear good things about Battlefront WWII as well but personally I’ve not played it.
Oh and regarding the Peter Pig site, I admit that it looks like it’s not been updated since 1997 but it’s actually updated quite regularly. Its’ fine to order from and the customer service is excellent. I’ve never had to wait more than a couple of weeks for my figures to turn up.
