I’ve got a match against a Necron player running the new codex. He’s already thrashed me once, and I don’t plan on letting it go down like that again!

I decided to go with some razorspam MSU to counter his annihilation/command barges (sic?) with TLAssCs (which will also help thin out his immortals), TLLCs, and MM/HF Speeders.

I’ve also got plenty of searchlights to counter his one-use night fight schtick, and since NF doesn’t apply to his turn, there’s no downside to using them.

The wolf guard will go with four of the GH packs, the Rune Priest go with the other two and try to snipe the his HQ's/WW C'tan with Jaws.

So, what am I missing?

Multi-Melta Long Fangs are a waste IMHO unless you have Grimnar to make them relentless.

No one in their right mind will leave their tanks parked next to your drop pods and your LF cannot fire upon disembarking.

Switch to something else that has more range or is generally more useful.

Yes, I'd forgotten about that; adjusted accordingly. Thanks!

The Long Fangs can't fire when they Drop Pod in. When people do this they throw Logan Grimnar in there to give them Relentless.

MSU of Razorbacks might work, though I'd be worried. I prefer larger squads with a few special close combat weapons (MotW and/or PW). Other SM armies tend to do it better. Space Wolves really excel at the hybrid approach.

So ditch the Drop Pods or put better units in them (if you are doing MSU/Razorspam its better to ditch them). I'd also tweak your troops a bit and give Razorbacks to the Long Fangs.

Something like this maybe:

Rune Priest 110
1w/ Chooser of the Slain, Living Lightning, Storm Caller

Wolf Guard Battle Leader 100
1 w/ Combi-Melta, Wolf Claw

Wolf Guard 190
4 w/ Combi-Melta, Power Weapon, Meltabombs
1 w/ Combi-Flamer, Power Weapon, Meltabombs

Grey Hunters 150
5 w/ Flamer
Razorback w/ TLLC

Grey Hunters 155
5 w/ Meltagun
Razorback w/ TLAC

Grey Hunters 155
5 w/ Meltagun
Razorback w/ TLAC

Grey Hunters 155
5 w/ Meltagun
Razorback w/ Las/Plas

Grey Hunters 155
5 w/ Meltagun
Razorback w/ Las/Plas

Grey Hunters 200
8 w/ x1 Meltagun, x1 Power Weapon, x1 Mark of the Wulfen, x1 Wolf Standard
Rhino

Long Fangs 190
5 w/ x4 Missile Launchers
Razorback w/ TLLC

Long Fangs 190

Razorback w/ TLLC

Total Points 1750

If you can't take out his barges with all of that I don't think there is any help for you!

Personally I'm not a fan of Jaws so feel free to ignore my advise there, but Storm Caller can be useful for providing a 5+ cover save to all your transports and D6 S7 shots never hurt anyone except anyone with AV11-13 and Monstrous Creatures. Gave him a Rhino so he can actually do things while you advance/move around.

Keep one scoring Razorback back to hold your home objective. Kept them cheap and gave them a flamer and TLLC for that. They still get a Wolf Guard though. Gave him a Combi-Flamer for grins but you could keep that a Combi-Melta or not even give them one and use the 38 points for something else (3 more Wolf Standards? 4 more if your opponent doesn't quibble over 2 points).

If you don't like the WGBL then throw him away for a second Rune Priest. You don't have them all in the Rhino, but if you did take 2 Priests I'd want to take a 2nd Rhino for him so he can shoot at someone else. Didn't want to sacrifice the Lascannons though since you need to pop those shields.

If you don't care about Kill Points, drop the 200 point Grey Hunters with the Rhino down to 155 and use the points to buy a Rhino for the Wolf Guard to put the Rune Priest in. Then you get your 8 Razorbacks plus a Rhino, all able to affect AV13. And we haven't gotten to the Long Fangs yet.

While I can understand the Razorspam, remember this: you need those Rune Priests to shoot so put them in Rhinos.

Otherwise I guess you'll do okay, I have an 1850 game against Necrons tonight running a Bjorn Razorspam list so we'll see how that works out.

I think my primary concern should be dropping his Barges. after that, he's got 3-4 units of immortals, an overlord, Anrakyr and the WW C'tan. If I destroy those five barges in the first two turns, I should be able to put out more firepower than he can keep up with, since he'll be light on weapons and on foot. With the combination of Writhing Worldscape and his difficult terrain weapon, I really want to avoid moving.

I traded a Speeder for two rhinos, and gave the LF two of the RBs. Now, I can trade one speeder for 4 GHs and a WS. Should I leave them as is, trade one, or trade both?

Be sure to let me know how it goes!
