The store I play at is anti-WHFB, but my store is not me, and I'm hoping to start, though slowly, a Vampire Counts army. Because there are no pressing deadlines, I want to do this army right; by right, I mean, well painted, modeled and themed. While I do this, I hope to update this thread with questions to you all regarding hobby strategies.

I picked Vampire Counts because they are so cool looking (not unusual in Fantasy, I think), but also so new; my sloth won't harm me too much.

So here are my first to questions:

1). Is Stigoi plural, and the singular stigos?

2). What is the fluff behind the corpse master? I see they work the Mortis Engine. But what are they really? Are they undead, or mortals in league with the dead?

More updates and requests for information in time.

1. Strigoi was a bloodline of vampires whos kingdom was destroyed and theyre on the run from the pretty much everyone even other vampires.

2. The necromancers are humans who are seeking power over life and immortality so they sided with vampires. The mortis engine is a necromancers soul bound to a reliquary and adds powers to the engine.

Probably your not in a hurry since VC are kinda on the expensive side since the 2 of the most used core are only 2-3 pts a piece and you can raise more. Not unheard of for a VC player to have over a hundred skeletons, Zombies etc. I have been working on this army for a long while and have over 5k pts and I can say its definately not the cheapest of the fantasy armies. lol

The enemy of my enemy is a bastard so lets kill him too.

But what are the corpse masters, the guys riding the mortis engines? Are they alive or dead? The supplement say that the engines have relics of necromancers in it, but the corpse master... what is it?

They're alive. Theyre necromancers.

The coven throne is the vampire side of things.

The enemy of my enemy is a bastard so lets kill him too.

So they're sort of like low level necromancers?

In the codex it just says theyre trusted servants of a vampire that prove immune to the dire energies of the lichelord trapped in the engine.

The enemy of my enemy is a bastard so lets kill him too.

This is pretty much it, I do not think they are Necromancers, they are just trusted (living) servants of the Vampire (or Necromancers)

Says in the codex deathless trusted servant to a vampire who are immune. Not pretty much.. its what the codex says.

Thunderingjove there is a great store called Great Escape Games about a hour from Berkeley that has a thriving fantasy scene if you are interested.

Thanks for that. I don't know what would be more a challenge: to convince my local club to support WHFB, or to take public transit to Great Escape Games!

Also, I'm happy you liked my quote enough to keep it! People usually just ignore me.

I was in agreement and reiterating. The reason I used the terminology of "pretty much it" is because if he wanted to do something fluffwise with the corpsemaster there is always room to do something that modifies what something is. So calm down I was not trying to argue, only reinforce.

The Lone Wolf Army Builder has updated the Vampire Counts file!

I bought a box of ghouls and a box of black knights. I want to do a theme with monstrous infantry, ghouls, zombies, and creatures of the night. So, I think I want a level four necromancer on a corpse cart and a master of the dark arts stigos on foot. That puts me at exactly 25 percent for 2500. What other magic items do I need to make these Lords work? I don't know WHFB enough for independent judgment.

I would drop the corp from the lord necro and give him the perapit and the 4+ ward

Strigoi just needs dragon bane jem and then arcane or magic weapon

Am I allowed to give the Lord Necromancer 2 arcane items? Army builder won't let me.

So, I was remembering "Shadow of the Vampire," and the memory gave me a great idea for theming these two lord characters: the Necromancer Lord will be Friedrick Murnau (John Malkovich), the Stogos will be Max Schreck (William Defoe). What model in the GW range would make a good Murnau/Malkovich?

Nope. You may only give characters one item of each magic item type. So one magical weapon, one magical armour, one talisman... And so on. But not two of any.
