I have been playing Eldar for a long time and recently someone has pointed out to me a little thing in the LoS that might change how I play them. The Eldar jetbikes are listed under wargear for them and the Los rules state: "Line of sight must be traced from the eyes of the firing model to any part of the body of at least one of the models in the target unit(for 'body' we mean its head, torso, legs and arms). Sometimes, all that may be visible of a model is a weapon, am antenna, a banner or some other ornament he is wearing or carrying(including its wings and tail, even though they are technically part of its body). In these cases, the model is not visible." Now does this mean that the bike is just an additive to the model like a banner or something and therefore all sight drawing to and from the model would be done from the rider itself? How many people play like this and has anyone played like this in an official GW tournament and they have allowed it or even encouraged it?

The bike isn't really a war gear. It's the unit. I wouldn't let you ignore it the same way as a banner or an antenna.

You would have a serious uphill battle tryle to convince someone that the bikes on biker models doesn't count for LoS especially since the rider is receiving a T boost for being on it. I never leave home without a pack of jetbikes and always play the bike as targetable.

However I do play that the bike is used for in game area targeting purposes such as blasts coverage and assault rather then the area of the base. It only seems logical since all other bike units are the area of the model.

Well, I don't really have a rule backup, but I'd agree with kronk and BlueDagger. The bike is targetable.

I think this is one of those times when a departure from the RAW is pretty commonly accepted.
