I convinced a friend to play Warhammer40k and he wanted to play Chaos Daemons and I was wondering could you tell me some tips on the Daemons so I can help him out.

Don't play Grey Knights, especially if the other player is a TFG

Daemons are a decentish army, but suffer from the problem of having to split their force and roll randomly to see which half you get to deploy.

I try to make each half a capable mini-army, so that either way i have something i can use.

If i take 2 soul grinders, or daemon princes (etc) i will put one in each half.

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

also i would recoment diversity, daemons work best when you use lots of variety.

so grab a little tzeench and a little nurgle a few slaneshi stuff, i'm not a big a fan of khorn but they are good for heavys and cc. try to find a balance with an overall force.

i know a mate who went all khorn n lots of heavy n he hates his army adn he hates 40k because it's just not workign for him...however my army is alot of fun since i can assult and shoot n generally change my play however i like because i have a little from each god.

other then that it's a personal taste thing, get units you like the look of and want to paint then you will be able to work with it and start thinking strats and have fun playing
