would it be better to field lots of chimera's or lots of valkyires? I know that most people say that a strong chimera based list is the way to go, but what about an Elite force based around 5 valkyires, 2 vendetta's? (in 1500pts)

Any comments/advise would be much appericiated!

Might want to check out this thread in the tactics section.

I'm not sure of the difference myself, but I can see the value in having mobile troops to capture objectives as an Eldar player.

It depends on what you want to do. A valkyrie is a chimera that costs twice as much, but can move up to twice as fast while ignoring terrain, along with scouts and deepstrike.

Which you choose depends on what you're trying to do. Do you want fewer, faster transports, or do you want more, worse ones?

Valkyrie's also have the limitation of being forced to move in squadrants as well don't they. Sorry if I'm wrong, I do not claim to be an expert on 40k rules.

If this is true then I think they are right because even with wound allocation your vehicles are gona drop quick.

If this isn't then your idea is amazing and IG do Eldar tactics pretty well.

Apostrophes aren't necessary for most plurals, unless the singular already ends in an s.

Aircav armies are viable; I know a few folks on Dakka have veteran-based armies where everyone rides in a Valkyrie or Vendetta. Vendettas are criminally undercosted (three twin linked lascannons for 30 points over a valk) and effective tankhunters. The only issue is that, as Dr.Dakka said, they are generally purchased as squadrons and need to stay in coherency with each other. This could be worse though, as you want your army sticking together for orders from your CCS anyway.

Chimeras are also very good, much easier to transport, more flexible and significantly cheaper, both money and points wise. They serve similar, yet distinct roles.

While Valks allow you to fly around quicker, Chimeras allow you to fire from theguys inside, both have benefits as mentioned but chimeras can form great walls of AV12, but their av10 sides let them down, valks don't worry about this as much, but are more likely to be shot.

All depends if you want valks or 2x as many chimeras roughly instead.

For the record my list has a near 1.5 to 1 ratio of Chimeras and Vendettas. it works for me.

In addition, don't forget that squads jumping out of Valkyries run the risk of failing their grav-chute insertion and hitting dangerous terrain dropping out. With a Chimera you're guaranteed to have a safe exit.

Plus, depending on who you load in it, rather than using Chimeras as a "get my guys from point a to point b" vehicle like a Valkyrie, depending on how you outfit them they can be turned into mobile pillboxes. In fact, if you don't mind throwing away the ballistics skill upgrade, you can outfit a Veteran squad with 3 flamers and change the chimera weapons to 2 heavy flamers and you have 5 friggin' flamers coming out of that thing per turn. Templates are wonderful things.

But hey, that's just my two bits.

Why Valks over Vendettas?

Vendettas are one of the best vehicles in the game.

I use both. I use my Valks as more of gun boats though, I love the S4 large blasts. Great against horde armies.

It needed to be said, and you are quite correct.

Not so correct here, however. Regular plurals for words ending in 's' (or in a sibilant sound) use 'es', or, less commonly, 'os' or 'is'. Apostrophes don't come into the equation at all.

My English! It's getting assassinated!
I was trying to come up with an example but I couldn't at the time. My bad!

This only happens if you move flat out and jump out, IIRC. If you're moving regular speed and disembarking as per usual, it's not an issue.
