Ok, here something I don't really understand the purpose.
Supporting attack make the second rank attack,
spear make the second rank attack.
Why use spear? or my interpretation of rules are F@#k up ?

base now is 2 ranks, spears let you attack with an extra rank (read 3rd rank) assuming you meet the other requirements for such like you didnt charge.

high elves get an additional rank for 4 ranks.

horde formation also give you an additional rank.

so high elves in a horde with spears attack with 5 ranks if they didnt charge.

and if I'm being attack by flank, the second rank with spear can attack, but the supporting attack cannot!

No, they cannot. You do not get supporting attacks to the flank or rear

I think he's saying that if they have Spears, the second rank can attack, not that they get the additional rank's supporting attacks.

Is this true? Because I seem to remember something about only the 'first' rank ever being able to attack to the side or rear.

GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

Spears give you the fight in extra ranks rule, which allows you to fight with one more rank of Supporting attacks.

You dont get supporting attacks from the side or rear

per the rules, attacks to the side or rear do not benefit from additional ranks, nor supporting attacks.

or more simply, to the side or rear you get the guys in direct base contact and nothing else. also with side and rear you dont get your parry save.
