So to celebrate the 25th birthday of WH40K my local game store has been selling out of print codices and Rule books for cheap cheap cheap. A friend and I bought a couple of 3ed rule books (the edition we started in) ,and the codices for our armies. We are playing a 3ed game today his Chaos Space Marine Iron Warriors Vs my Tau. Anyone else ever play a game using older rules for fun?

I have once seen a game using 3rd edition 40K orks and an older edition of WHFB orks. It was fun to watch the two systems match up for the most part.

I like to play 3rd Ed games once in a while. It reminds of years past.

You just need to get someone who was well versed in the older rules so there isnt any confusion with mixing the different editions up. That happens far too often when the heat of battle hits you hah.

We play 3E missions all the time. The only time we play 5E missions is when a guy comes over who competes in tourneys.... We do it for his benefit.

3E Missions are plentiful and much more exciting than... KP or OBJ only.... plus only 3 types of each is blah

My gaming club usually has quite frequent games of out of production games by GW-ie Space Crusade, Dark Future, etc. We use the old Rogue Trooper mission rules from time to time too (200pts vs 1500pts? 0.o). Admitedly I'm playing In The Emperor's Name more often than 40k nowadays as its much more fluffy (and enjoyable) than the game in its current state. ^^
