Well, people are split about Daniel Radcliffe's ability to play any character but Harry Potter, and this film does nothing to swing my opinion one way or the other. However, this is an excellent traditional Hammer horror movie. Unfortunately, you may find yourself comparing Radcliffe and Ciaran Hinds to Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. That's how strong the resonance is with this movie and the older Hammer films like The Fall of the House of Usher.

It's actually good?
I thought it would be a "horror" film made for the audience that followed Daniel radcliffe from harry potter.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I read two reviews of this in the papers today, getting 2 ans 3 stars out of 5.
It was described as scary in the same was as ...BOO! is scary (see got you ).
Radcliffe's acting was denoted as adequate in a role that involved basically standing about holding a candle. One wag said that Harry would have solved it before the first hour was out.
The West End play was supposedly as good as the book, the film is a bit flat in comparison.

It is a psychological ghost story.
The reviews in London are giving 2-3 stars out of five, which is not that great but not terrible. Average, basically.
I haven't seen it yet. I enjoy films like The Outsiders more than schlock-horror for actual chills, so it might be all right.

I enjoyed the play but have no interest in seeing Radcliffe in anything. He just doesn't have a face for most of the roles that he has been cast in outside of Barry Plopper.

The play is allegedly very good, as well as surprisingly scary for a stage performance.
This coming from one of only two people studying Drama at the time who were unable to afford the school trip to London in order to see it.
The talk of it when the other people returned was nearly all positive.

Harry Potter and the Black Woman is a terrible film. Hammer should be ashamed to have attached it's name to this movie.
To sum it up, this movie relies on jump scares, and that is about it. It's beautiful aesthetic and scenery is ruined by typical loud noise jump scares, and I mean a jump scare every 5 minutes, no joke. This movie is simply a pandering to female audience members who follow Daniel (such as my lady friend) and provides amateur jump scares to keep women frightened while their boyfriends cross their arms and try to stay awake.

I wasn't quite sure what I thought about it at first, so I went and saw it again, and you're right. It was the sort of movie that would have shared the gak out of people 40 years ago, but people have seen so many horror movies nowadays that it's almost a waste of time to make them.

I just saw it tonight. It seems to think it has swapped gore for depth. Sadly it hasn't. It is pretty though and it has Ciaran Hinds in it (Caeser from Rome). Overall I thought the film was quite good.
