Heya guys, just getting back into 40k as i left a few years back becaus it all got a bit crappy. I like playing fluffy but my local group is a math-hammer power gaming hub now. I'm intrigued by the new edition coming out so im doing a necron list in advance. I have not worked out the points as such but here is my idea:

In my mind necrons are legion and advance in large numbers at a slow pace taking hits, repairing and constantly advancing under a hail of firepower, to represent this i so far have:

10 warriors
ghost ark

10 warriors
ghost ark

10 warriors

10 warriors

5 scarab bases

5 immortals tesla

5 immortals tesla

overlord on command barge res orb

1 lord res orb.

apologise but i dont have the codex on me for points but this is what i have model wise. i just wanted to know as im gonna play in this edition do you think this idea is competitive/ playable? i know i have next to no anti tank and thats what im going for next.

any feedback appreciated. will get the points up in a bit but its the general 'feel' of the army this question is based around.

What you have is over 1,250pts (I think) so I assume you are looking at 1,500pts games, my second assumption is that you are going to be going back to play at that store so you will be playing against optimized lists so if thats the case then I think you would find it harder to win with this list. The new necrons are a combo codex, what I mean by that is to play to there strengths you have to combine the different special rules to make them effective and whats great is that this codex has so many combos. When I look at your list I again assume your lord in barge has a warscythe (and the other one too, which should be a pheron so the gauss warriors can move and shoot at full range). Its nice to have 3 av13 vehicles as its harder for enemy AT to take them down but I also notice you lack AT yourself, one group of scarabs and a barge lord isnt enough (you cant rely on gauss as AT), as any strength 6 shooting will insta kill a base and power gamer will have those high strength shots in there army, and after you CCB lord will be focused fired down. Now on to your list, if I was to take those models I would combine the two foot slogging groups into one big group, put in the pheron lord with them so they can move and shoot add in a cryptek or a RC lord with MSS, change the barge to an annihilation barge, change the barge lord to a destroyer lord with MSS, sempiternal weave, and warscythe and add in a group of 5 wraiths with atleast 3 with whipcoils add in another scarab group (edit: forgot to say while keeping the rest as you have it now). It should do alright.

Awesome thanks for the swift and well advised response! i will NEVER play in store again but im lucky there is a few clubs nearby. Is there a new wraith model coming out soon? i heard there was. also the current codex pic of the wraith looks nothing like the old model...

cheers again

I too am waiting on the new models as well, they look amazing. I am glad to hear that you have other places to play at, I like competitive builds and fun builds (My Orks can do both ) but power gamers, especially net list players, kinda ruins the fun of the game if you see the same army/list used by everyone. I hope you get in with a good group that has the right mix of fun and competitiveness which aren't mutually exclusive. The new codex has alot of nuances to it which is great for more tactical games and also has alot of ways to make the fluff your own. Good luck in your future battles and keep us updated on how you do.

Tomb spiders scarabs And whip coil wraiths on offense massive 20x man warrior units on defense is what I like but everyone plays differently

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

I'd definitely combine your immortals into one ten man squad, stick with the tesla carbnes though for sure.
More survivability that way, i'd get something to actually counter monstrous creatures (deathmarks) or some kind of close combat screen. (Lychguard, or wraiths)
I'd consider a heavy firepower option such as a doomsday arc, or annihilation arc, if you are going beyond 1500 points, consider a monolith for sure.
Just my two cents here, i'm kinda old school in my choices for my army, but i've had success with the deathmarks and Lychguard.
