Afternoon boys and girls, I recently finished my Space Wolf Guard, and upon releasing it to the world I have received a lot of feedback saying it is "lighter than normal space wolves". While this was always said as a positive, it's still been niggling at me that my space wolves are too light.

So opinion time, does the blue look okay or should I go darker?

More pictures are available in my gallery.

Thanks
-Cry

it looks great to me, if a little flat. however if it bothers you, you could always give it a thinned out wash of asurmen blue on all of the armour plates, that should add a litle more depth, and make them a little darker/bluer

Yah this would basically how to make it darker. Though it looks fine to me.

I think that's one of the plusses to painting Wolves. You can paint them any shade of "grey" you'd like. I paint mine super light as well. Some folks like the blue tint, some prefer a much warmer grey color. If you're happy with the shade of grey, I'd say to run with it. I agree that a bit of shading or maybe a line highlight in some places might help with the definition of the amrour plates and provide some variety over the armour surface.

When people ask me, "How do you build your army?"
I tell them its "The ten-zero factor, coolness ten, combat effectiveness... zero."

They look great in that color. If you like the color, paint them that way.

I just started into WH40K and I'm painting my Space Wolves in a color that can be more appropriately called "Baby Blue". Well, it ended up being a much lighter blue than what I've seen for the Space Wolves.

I like it. They're dark enough to not be confused for White Scars, but light enough so that they're not Iron Hands. Nice job!

Naaaa man. It looks great.

The ''official'' paint scheme for Space Wolves narks me a little.
Personally I dont think it represents them very well.

Yours looks great though

I'd just go with what you have dude and like the above says, stuff anyone who says "erm, soz but they shood be moar darka".
I started painting mine quite dark (like the front of the newest ed Codex) but then thought "why should they be this dark if they're from a planet predominantly covered in snow?" so went with the lighter colour from the Eavy Metal Masterclass book. A base of 1:1:1 Shadow Grey, Space Wolves Grey and Kommando Khaki. Tiz brilliant if a bit of a pain...

+20.

If you like your paint job (and Russ knows I do, you did a great paint job) then keep to it.

I do my wolves much darker, but I prefer to break from tradition

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

It falls down to personal taste. If that's your preferred shade of grey, then run with it, and don't let any amount of feedback change your mind.

Perhaps throw together a few test miniatures, and experiment with different shades of grey using alternative paints/washes?

I'm in the first 1/3 of a SW 13th company, and I am using Codex Grey for all the original armor. So I say go for it, I never was all that much of a fan of the blue-ish tint to 'official' Space Wolves.
