The main problem is that you wouldn't be able to bash the zombie (or living man...) with that because the chain would bounce off. You would have to slowly melee the zombie... But it looks awesome.
Now shut up and take my money.

It needs to be a bullpup configuration, to help with the balance issue.
But otherwise it looks nice.

That actually looks like a useful battlefield attachment. Good for clearing debris and scaring the out of anyone you go the melee.

I can see this as practical in real-world combat engineering applications, where breaching via explosives is undesirable for whatever reason. If your engineers can operate their cutting tools while still being in a position to fire on the enemy, then you're doing something right.

You try aiming a gun while cutting a barbed wire fence.
Rule of cool definitely applies here, and I find it hilarious that someone would actually make this a functioning thing. It will never, ever be used in anything resembling a real combat scenario though.

You arn't going to shoot at the exact same time as you are cutting.
It just lets you immediatly make the transition if you need to. Otherwise you have to drop the chainsaw to pick up your rifle.
Overall, less weight to lug aroung.

Modern armies have their troops carry 3-point-slings anyways, so there's no need to "drop" anything.
And who would cut a fence with a chainsaw?!
I dunno, doesn't really seem that practical to me. Psychological shock value, yeah, but for your own troops as well. And at the end of the day, a bayonet will be doing the stabbing job just as well.
Still an interesting construction.

I didn't say that, and I disagree. Cutting through barbed wire, if you came under fire you could stop cutting and shift to a proper firing position. Compare this to cutting using a separate tool, where if you came under fire you would have to stop cutting, drop the cutting tool, pick up your weapon and then enter a proper firing position. This would save a lot of time over that, don't you think?
Also, consider for a moment that if you are cutting through a wooden barricade that has hostiles on the other side, you could immediately begin firing once an opening was made...

More like you'd be fired at instantly, given that whoever is inside knows perfectly well you're coming, and where you are coming from. Chainsaws aren't lightsabers, it will take a couple moments to chew through there.
Besides, what kind of wooden barricade? A door? -> kick it open, or use a shotgun. That's exactly why the latter are being carried into the field nowadays, after all. Something more massive? Don't spend minutes working on it, you'll just get yourself killed - blow it open.
Also consider that chainsaws run on battery power or fuel (and with this miniscule size won't be able to store much of either) and, just like any mechanical tool, can fail when you most need it. A chainsaw that doesn't work will be of considerably less use than a knife or a pair of pliers.

Yeah, it's neat and all, and I give you props for it, but that's really just about it. In a combat situation I'd definitely not want to have a chainsaw.

Generally, if a non-explosive breach is needed, swat teams (I don't know about military) will usually use a specialized hammer. But chainsaw guns are much more fun.

Yea I would never want a chainsaw on my M4. It would be slowed. The stuff they have us put on there is almost useless. Give me a vertical hand grip, an holographic sight, and a flashlight attached to the side. A rifle gets heavy enough after wearing 80 pounds of gear with it.
