how do passengers fire in open topped vehicles
assault - can all fire at 6 or 12"
rapid fire - can all fire at 6" or 12" and at full or half
heavy - cannot fire if moved right?

the rules dont seem to stated clearly though i may have missed them.

It's the same as how they fire in a non-open topped vehicle, except all models that are able to fire can fire.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Models inside an open topped vehicle measure range from the hull. If the vehicle was stationary the models count as stationary, if the vehicle moves up to 6" passengers fire as if they moved, over 6" passengers cannot fire.

Pretty simple.

Stationary counts as not moving.
Combat Speed (up to 6") counts as moving
Cruising Speed or Flat-Out (over 6") can't fire at all

Of course, if you are close enough, you can move 12", jump out, shoot assault weapons and assault. e.g. 5 scouts in a Land Speeder Storm.

ok makes sense but now if a vehicle is fast what does that do?
ie 5 warriors in a venom

Nothing. Still can't fire if it goes crusing speed or faster (IE more than 6")

Fast only improves the vehicle, not the people inside.

this, but also note what someone else said before, they can get out after the vehicle moved 12 and shoot

Would Red Paint Job be an exception to the up to 6" statement? 7" RPJ still is combat speed, correct?

Edit: pointless question. I reread RPJ in the codex and it is clear on this. No penalty for the extra inch

Note, however you can NOT move 1" with RPJ and claim stationary.

well RPJ just adds 1" to your movement, so your combat is up to 7" and cruising is up to 13"

therefore yes you get your extra inch, as the rulebook uses the speed of the vehicle, not necessarily the number of inches moved

With the venom situation the people inside can still fire if the venom moved up to 12" IIRC.

Tournament record: (W/D/L)
Space wolves : 1/1/1
Dark Eldar : 6/0/1 (1 overall win)
Daemons :8/0/2 (1 overall win)
Normal games starting 5/11/12:
Dark Eldar 13/0/1
Daemons 32/1/1
Friends armies 1/0/0

A common mistake. This is not true.

Agreed. I've seen several DE players do it, especially with the new codex and the creation of 'aerial acrobatics." It makes it so that regardless of vehicle (dias not counting) then we can go 12" and shoot everything. The part that is missing is it should be OUR VEHICLES can shoot everything. Now we can drive a venom up 12" disembark 2" + 1" for base and then hit you with the blasters, but not from the "saftey" of the cardboard.

Most times it's an honest mistake and just informing them will be enough for them to realise their mistake.

They’re basically an entire chapter of Chaplains. CC lunatics. What every Space Marine should aspire to be, if not trapped in a Matt Ward nightmare.
