The Nuclear Regulatory Commission voted 4 to 1 on Thursday to grant a license to build and operate two reactors at a nuclear plant in Georgia, a crucial threshold for an industry that has not had a new start since 1978.

Power usage continues to climb, electic cars are starting to become a real possibility, fossil fuels are starting to run low, and CO2 levels in the atmosphere are starting to have negative effects on the climate. So SOMETHING has to be done so people can keep using their cell phones, ipods, and so on.

You know that coal plants emit more radioactivity than nucelar plants?
On the plus side, they're nowhere near me!
Bad for you, they produce so many revenue, every town near them flourishes.
Yeah, worked like a dream for Chernobyl, Fukishima and Windscale.
Seriously though I like Nuclear Power just not near me or my kids. Just close enough to draw cheap (?) power from.
I'll take an incredibly small risk of a potential nuclear accident over a definitive risk of respiratory problems from living near coal plants any day.

I still think the stigma, or a good deal of it anyway, goes back to people thinking 'bomb' when they hear nuclear. It doesn't matter how much research is done or presented.
That and it is 'science', and you can't trust science.

Yeah, that is pretty sweet, wish we actually had nuclear power over here, all we have here is a reactor for producing commercial radioisotopes such as Co-60 :(

Nuclear power is perfectly safe.
The amount of deaths its caused compared to coal plants is negligable. More people in China die in coalmining every yeah than have ever died due to radiation poisoning.
Ever thought 40k would be a lot better with bears?

Nice, I have no problem with them. I can see the towers from the one that's maybe 2 miles up the road (at least that's where you aren't allowed to go any farther) from the gaming store I've adopted as my 'flgs'
