They are actual physical beings whom had a very strong connection to the warp. Atleast thats how I have always interpreted it.

I guess they are like really powerful souls that can create anything.

They were a highly advanced civilization that drew its powers and technology from the Warp and psychic abilities, the Old Ones were basically a hypercharged Eldar.

I heard somewhere that they looked like the lizardmen from WHFB.

So much like a being of the same material as say, the Emperor?

Sarge: Quick, Kill them!
Grunt: Wait, but those are ladies, we cant hurt ladies.
Sarge: Those arent ladies, they're Deamonettes. They will tear you limb from limb and eat your soul.
Grunt: But sir... that's what ladies do....

The old Necron Codex said there are still degenerate Old One descendants and that the C'tan considered them particular delicacies. The Codex then went on to say these degenerate Old Ones might be used as bait by the Eldar to lure the Necrons into battle, and to represent such degenerate Old Ones with WHFB Lizardmen. It is essentially a nod and wink towards the Old Ones being Slann, which is what they were originally outright said to be originally when the background for the Eldar was first written.

From what I gather in this thread. The old ones makes all the other races look like little baby retards.

You are perhaps mixing up the "brainboys" who were the "controllers" for the krork (the "master" to their "blaster"). An intelligent Snotling. An intellectual fungus - the mind boggles.
A particular fungus needed to be ingested to keep them 'smart' - and a combination of the orks eating it, and a catastrophe that wiped out that fungus, meant the snotlings degenerated into their current selves and the orks became dominant by virtue of being bigger and meaner (that the snotlings were also now dumber than a box of hammers also helped).

The Slann were the remnants of the old ones in RT.
A cross between lizards and sloths (the illustration showed them walking on all fours, but in the way sloths do, not as in the way crocodilians do).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

Slann is a good indication that they were lizardmen. But doesn't matter, they got ripped a new one 11 times over by C'tan and Crons and Enslavers.

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

Probably.

I think the ork dex mentions them engineering the Orks with their genetic memories etc, but that could be adapting existing orks, rather than creating them from scratch. I don't have my dex handy to check..

At least Slaan would be the proppa colour

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Finally found my dex

They recoded the orks post-creation.

Well technically the Slann are more like amphibians.

If one adapted the WHFB Lizardmen, one could do a Codex Degenerate Old Ones. In such a situation, the Lizardmen would be an engineered servant race, while the Slann proper would be the degenerate Old One descendants. Like WHFB Slann, they would be getting their powers through following the rituals of their ancestors, without really understanding them.
