Hello, does anybody know if there are any references to Old Gothic in any books apart from Gaunt's Ghosts?
Thanks

Is this something distinct from High Gothic and Low Gothic?

Usually, you have Low Gothic, the common language of Imperium (presented as English, for the sake of reader comprehension). And then you have High Gothic, which is presented as the antiquated language of bygone days, now spoken by scholars, priests, and as ritual occasion (presented as terrible dog-Latin).

Old Gothic probably just refers to the dialects of High/Low Gothc spoken millennia ago, the Imperium is 10,000 years old and languages have radically changed in far shorter time then that.

Could have also just been the author mixing it up with High Gothic.

Old Gothic is a language from before the Imperium. The Partisans or nihtgane speak it and here is a way that can be said hi: "Histye, soule" and a way to introduce yourself is: "Ayeam yclept (name) of (place of origin) His Worlde." and the way to say ghost is : sidthe

What I want to know is if there is any other reference apart from the Dan Abnett Guants Ghosts novels.

I don't think so he specifically calls it Old Gothic and makes references to how its related to High and Low gothic.

The "Old Gothic" that Abnett presents is a mix of English, Olde English and Gaelic (sidthe -> sidhe-> pronounced "shee", meaning "ghost or spirit", as in a bahan sidhe or "banshee" ). It's meant, in-universe, to be (one of) the root languages that High and Low Gothic grew from. It's in no way canonical to the 40K setting or appearing in works by any other BL author.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Thanks, just wanting to check cause I'm using it in appearance in a Dark Heresy game and I wanted to know if there were any other words I could pull out of it.
