40k Tournaments? 1500 is still pretty standard for GW ones, but a lot of the independent GTs I've seen run at 1750 or 1850.

TBH, I prefer smaller size, like 1250, since you get more games in that way. 2000 just becomes unwieldy.

I think GW have always stated that the game is 'designed' for around 1500pts, but then they may be changing their policy to 'MASSIVE GAMES SELL MORE MODELS'....

40k tournaments near me all seem to be 2000pts:
Monthly tourny at FLGS 2000
Monthly tourny at Battle Bunker 2000
Alamo GT 2000
Wargamescon 2000

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

Most tournaments for 40k range from 1500 to 2000 points with most of the tournaments in the UK closer to the 1500 point size and the US tournaments closer to the 2000 point limit.

There are some rare ones at 1000 points and 2500 points though.

Mannahnin's right, for fantasy 2000 is a low point value for a tournament- I'm actually not sure if I've played an 8th edition tournament at that level... I don't think I have.

2400/2500 would be "standard". I've also never played a game above 3000, although there are a number of tournaments at that level ('Ard Boyz, the Fantasy Big Brawl at Adepticon this year, Battle for Blobs Park near me, just to name a few off the top of my head). Therefore, I always have planned a way to get to 3K, even if it's adding in an expensive special character but your standard level to build to for tournaments is really 2500.

I have played one 2k fantasy tournament but it was kind of wierd. 2.5K works well better

1500pts would be my preference, the biggest issue with balancing codex's is not all of them scale well or equally. I can enjoy 40k at any point level (depenig on the context) but for competative play I find 1500pts works best, you have to make tough choices when it comes to list building the smaller the point level but the playing field is a little less skewed. As other have said GW is rumoured to play test at around 1500pts.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

GW runs fantasy at 2000 for most of their events.

Imperial Gaurd 18,000 Orks 16,000 Marines 21,900
Chaos Marines 7,800 Eldar 4,500 Dark Eldar 3,200
Tau 3,700 Tyranids 7,500 Sisters Of Battle 2,500
Daemons 4,000

Technically now the 'Normal' should be 2400 for fantasy and 1750 for 40k

Yep, that is the current official tournament size. This is only very recent, since last year I think so most people still play 1500 40K and 2000 fantasy.

But now its 1750 and 2400.

Americans play higher point values, 2000 and 2400.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I have heard about people in GW trying to make 6th ed 2000 points for 40k but after the leak, they are not so sure anymore.

Despite 2400 making the most sense (because it divides easily by 4) I've never actually played a tournament at that point level. The lowest large tournament I've played in 8th edition has been 2200... none have been as low 2000.

Obviously, there's a range, so if you can field something up to 2500 you should be OK for most events, up to 3000 will cover all of them.
