Hi guyz, I am making a death guard army (pre heresy) ... so non- nurgly! Here's my reather small army list

4 Space marines + Sergeant with power weapon
10 Space marines
4 Assault marines + Assault Sergeant
Captain with terminator armour and power weapon

So that's it for now, various non-heavy weapons within the units (non-heavy for fluff purposes). So what I did was gave the two sergeants with power weapons sythes, again for fluff purposes. The Captain will be holding a sythe and he has terminator armour to be a Death Shroud, one of the two body guards for their primarch Mortarion (Once again, death shroud is following fluff).

Dilemma:

Should I give my assault marines sythes as power weapons or stick with chain swords? They aren't sergeants so ... What?

So... why is this in background? Shouldn't it be in army lists or something?

It's asking a fluff question about building an army, so I think it seems fair. Better than "they should all have power fists b/c they're better!" that you might get in army building.

I would not give the assault models scythes. I imagine flying w/ a scythe and a jet strapped to your back is unwieldy at best, and not all that aesthetically appropriate.

I'd suggest modified sickles if you want to have the same theme, but more practical (if that's what you'd call magic sci-fi plate mail wearing supersoldiers with jet turbines, and pistols that shoot tiny missiles).

...but I didn't know that DG liked jump troops-- I thought that they mainly did fighting on foot w/ occasional bikes or transports?

Also, thx for the idea Replies come much faster than I expected on Dakka

DG might like jump troops as they haz bolt pistols which aren't heavy, they can therefore move and shoot

It's not really a discussion of the published background, so I'm moving it. You're not discussing an army list in terms of point costs and composition, so Army. Lists seems out of place. 40k General Discussion is probably the closest.

Aren't the Death Shrounds supposed to stay within 39 stps of Mortarion or something?
Scythes are cool so go with it anyway
IIRC The pre-Heresy Death Guard were more into armoured infantry tactics than CC stuff...
This has carried on somewhat to post-heresy but there are variations due to the legion breaking up somewhat.

I don't rly know about the 39 steps thing but I do think it would sound cool that Mortarion is nearby
