Played a game Friday and had a situation with artillery come up and didn't quite no how to deal with it. The scenario in question nvolves a Thunderfire Cannon and some Scourges which charged the Techmarine. As I understand the wording in the Marine codex, the Techmarine doesn't benefit from being an Independent Character until the Cannon is dead, which I inferred to mean that until that point they (the Techmarine and the Cannon) count as a single unit. This implies that charging the Techmarine which is part of the unit puts the whole unit in assault disallowing any firing from the Thunderfire Cannon. Is this assumption correct or is the Cannon still allowed to fire as long as the Techmarine is within 2" combat locked or not? Would the Thunderfire Cannon have to perform any sort of pile in move reacting to the assault or does it just stay put and inert until the Techmarine is free of combat again? Additionally after a few tums of Servo Harness attacks, the Techmarine caused the Scourges to flee. Can the Techmarine/Thunderfire Cannon unit run them down or do they just consolidate? We played it that it did in fact disallow shooting, and I gave the opponent the benefit of the doubt on catching the scourges, but he rolled low and failed to catch them. I just wanted to confirm we were doing it right as it's the first real time we have dealt with Artillery units.
