I love Apocalypse games since you have the freedom to basically anything you want and use anything you want. I was wondering what apocalypse armies were out there that used 2 or more armies together as one force. I'm interested in both fluff (the story behind these alliances) and the tactics. I'm especially interested in armies that combined Chaos since that is what I play.
I am currently working on a massive apocalypse army that will hopefully include just about all things Chaos. However, I love the Necron and Ork armies and want to find a way to make them part of my Chaos army. Since most of my Chaos forces are dedicated to either Khorne or Tzeentch I was playing with the idea of having an army of Necrons that have been tricked by Tzeentch into service (haven't worked out the details yet) and maybe an Ork army dedicated to Khorne. This would give me lots of inspiration for cool conversions and link my two armies.

So what offer Apocalypse Armies are out there?

Me and a buddy of mine play Ultramarines and Imperial Guard as a combo.

You could also do WhichHunters/sisters of battle

I don't think there are specific formations or armies that use mixed forces. Part of Apocalypse is for you to decide what forces are working together and why. I can fully see Orks working with Chaos in some way, esp if those Orks have been on a daemon planet for some time, they could of been twisted to Chaos at that point. Necrons working with Chaos would be trickier, but if you use that Tzeentch manipulated them that works with me.

Yes Eldar and SM have a specific formation, but I think they're the only ones. I like the idea of Orks stuck on a Daemon World, they could have some cool mutations too. The Necrons definitely are trickier and the Tzeentch thing is the only thing I could think of but it does seem to work. Also, what about a SM/Ork army that has orks with Space Marine equipment? Maybe some orks got their hands on some bolters or a land speeder or even figured out how to work a drop pod? They would certainly be SM for all gaming purposes, just look Orky.

When you have two armies fighting against each other it's compounded. Orks and tau fighting Dark Eldar and the Imperium. Sigh.

In fairness Orks and Chaos could be Orks hiring Chaotic mercenaries...
Or even Orks and Chaos allying in the face of some huge threat nin some kind of weird parody of more ordered forces...

DE and Orks are also availible as Mercs so again it could be that...

There are lots of reasons but few bother to use them...

Easy,

Orks = Freebooter mercenaries
Eldar/Dark Eldar = Corsair pirates
Tau = Farsight renegades
Necrons = Collector necrons trying to pimp out Trazyn's collection

Ork freebooters will fight anywhere there's good loot, I wouldn't be surprised if a smaller chaos warband would hire either Ork or Corsairs to fight for them.

I'd imagine that Trazyn would band together with others if there was something he wanted bad enough but couldn't get by himself (like that rare book or obscure rock).

Hey, if the game is fun, why not? Me and my friends just ran a 2v2: Tau and Sisters VS Grey Knights and ...Tyranids!

It was buckets of fun and we didn't care a bit about fluff. I'm sure we could have come up with some backstory, but it was more fun to team a Trygon and Dreadknight up to smash heads

I like the GK Tyranids lol I think its cool to have some story behind it but as long as its fun who cares. I play Chaos and I can just say anything I got em with is just turned to Chaos. I even have a very small Ultramarines Force started that might join my Chaos band sometime in the future. I love the Trazyn idea for the Necrons!!! I even wanted him to lead my Necrons that I will one day start!!!!

In game terms though: How would one pair Orks and Chaos. I have an armored assault Chaos army wit Berzerkers in LRs followed by Thousand Sons, Plague Marines, and 2 CSM squads all in rhinos, plus some Melta chosen, several DP, and khorne raptors. I was thinking a Dred/Killa Kan mob lead by a couple of Big Meks and some Lootas. Or even stick with the armored assault theme and go Boyz in Trukks and a battlewagon or 2. Im also interested in Necrons but that I think i will go wit what they do best which is long range overkill. probably throw in a couple of Doomsday Arks and Annihilation Barges and definitely some destroyers cuz they're awesome.
