Well for my second army (costed me a like $282, not bad for 1750 points)

Polish Armour:
3 Sherman V, 1 Crusader AA
3 Sherman V, 1 Firefly
3 Sherman V, 1 Firefly
3 Sherman V, 1 Firefly
1 Infantry platoon (3 Squads)
1 Scout Platoon
1 AA platoon (3 40mm Bofors)
4 Sextons
AOP

Canadian Armour:
3 Sherman V, 2 Crusader AA
3 Sherman V, 1 Firefly
3 Sherman V, 1 Firefly
3 Sherman V, 1 Firefly
1 Infantry platoon (3 Squads)
1 Scout Platoon, 3 .50 cal MGs
4 Sextons
Priority Air Support (Typhoons)

Now I have all these models, cept for the 40mm Bofors, but I don't mind purchesing them if the Polish list is better. ;D

Now anyways, what do you guys think, air cover, or increased AA? with increased Artillery with the AOP? Any help would be great cheers

Edit: Sorry, its was actually $282, don't know why I said $350

Hmmm. I think both lists look pretty nice.

I have played with both AOP, which can be pretty frustrating for the EN. On the other hand I do love my Typhoons. They are great at killing the big cats.

Here is my thinking....AA guns can be used against infantry and light armour at a pinch, this gives them flexibility. Plus they are always on the board (you don't have to roll to see if they turn up for a single turn), once they arrive they stay until destroyed. Aircraft flit in and out, and sometimes barely make a difference.

AA is a dual role which gives some flexibility. Like my Flak 36's good at killing aircraft, very good at killing tanks.

In V3 aircraft became a whole lot more deadly with the auto-"range in" on non-concealed units (oh cripes!)

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest!

Either AAA or the Typhoons? I would almost drop the scout pl from the CDN list and add in the SP AAA pl (If points permit.)

Thanks for the help guys.

So should I go for the increased AA or Air cover? Cause It seems pretty split down the middle ;D

Use both. AAA is great against light armour, troops and EN aircraft. A real multi-role unit. The aircraft sqn., with 3rd ed. rules becomes a pretty mean surprise for Panthers, Tigers and any other heavy armoured kompaine or list.

I still say drop the scouts, and go with both.

I would actually consider changing to having Dedicated Recce and AAA. I have now read v3 cover to cover several times and I think that Recce and AAA are going to be key to having a survivable and competitive Tank Company.

You are going to think twice on moving into the Open if the Enemy has Airpower. This will become extremely difficult with Objectives placed in the open, and ambushing AT guns and other Anti-tank nastiness in ambush. The days of the Tank bum rush maybe numbered by clever tactics and a solid list.

I concur mwnciboo. I put in a unit of sdkfz 222's with my MW DAK Pzr Kompanie, because their 2cm guns are AA guns on Recon cars! If my enemy has aircraft, they will stick around the tanks whilst they are covering ground the early turns (where planes usually show up) then split off and hunt down vulnerable units/push objectives in the later game, when my tanks are in his face already/he has one plane dice left/ etc.

Has recce changed much in 3rd ed.?

Revised list-Canadian Armour:
3 Sherman V, 2 Crusader AA
3 Sherman V, 1 Firefly
3 Sherman V, 1 Firefly
3 Sherman V, 1 Firefly
1 Recce Platoon
1 Infantry platoon (3 Squads)
2 AA Sections (6 40mm Bofors)
4 Sextons

I tried to fit in the SP Bofors, but 195pts took me over :(. So what do you guys think, lots of AA, but even if the opponent doesent have any Air support at all, I can still deal to infantry and light vehicles ;D

Hmm I'm not the most proficient of FoW players, especially with the new version, but I always enjoy a good amount of AA. Nothing like Bofors pumping out dakka out in the air on on the field

No but the ambush rules means that you are forcing players to reveal ambushes or setup ambushes further away. Ontop of this the Gone to Ground rules (Starting the game in GTG for example) may make enemy platoons a 7 to hit on a D6 (impossible) so you need recce to remove their Gone to Ground status these units so you can shoot at them. This is very annoying if you have artillery setup, but nothing you can hit despite the fact you know they are there!

My AAA conclusion comes from the Auto-Range in on things in the open (IIRC outside of 2" from Area terrain???). This is terrifying for heavy tanks and especially German Mechanised/Tank Forces with their small numbers. Typhoons will destroy them with almost contemptuous ease. So move Cover to Cover or alternatively bring your own AA cover! So its a Catch 22 situation if your Enemy has Air power.
