Hey all,

I am fairly new to miniwargaming, so I was hoping someone with more experience could help me. I got the tech canal set from Armorcast, and while I'm really happy with most of it, one of the pieces is interacting funny with my Games Workshop paints. I did wash it with soapy water and let it dry thoroughly before priming it, but most of the primer did not adhere. (I used spray on Chaos Black.) After I put it on, I could take off most of the primer with a dry cloth. It just did not adhere to the resin. I washed it AGAIN and let it dry and the second time the primer took only slightly better. I soldiered on and painted it the best I could and sealed it and it seemed that the paint on a lot of areas just never dried right. I finished it and put a sealer on it and it is still really sticky. Did I do something wrong, or is it a problem with the resin? I have done six other pieces so far, and this is the first one I have had issues with. I'd hate to have to strip this thing down to repaint it AGAIN, but I don't know what else to do.

Pre-emptive thanks!

Strange.... are you using chaos black paint pot or the chaos black spray can primer? if its first one, id suggest the 2nd... if its the 2nd that your using could still be excess mold release i washed my contemptor 3/4 times n still had some on

I sprayed it with the can the first two times. On the areas that still didn't take the second time, I used the pot paint to touch it up. Doesn't seem to have mattered.

Are you sure the spray can of Chaos black is primer? If it's only a paint, this is a normal effect.

Wash it up again (that mold release is a real wench) then make sure the can is primer.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

It can't be the paint can. I have coated all of the models with the same product, (and all from the exact same can.) Only this model has the problem.

Thanks for the PM suggestions guys! I'll talk to the manufacturer and see what they say.

If it's resin you need to wash it thoroughly before priming. I use a quick bath in Simple Green, then a light scrub with a toothbrush and rinse in water. Let it dry completely THEN prime it. If you don't get all of the mold release off, you may have this problem.

For your situation, you may want to strip the paint off (using Simple Green) and start anew.

Sounds like the ratio might not have been correct when the resin was mixed, if it's just one model. I've got several different sprays to seal a tacky surface (which, with me only has happened with the harder-to-use resin, where it's 1:10 catalyst:resin by weight not volume) but they all really just seem like clear gloss enamels.

At this point I think you really will need to strip it and then see if it can be salvaged. If it's a bad mix, time will not resolve the tackiness. I'd try a clear gloss enamel topcoat after stripping and before painting.

Are you priming the model outside? Is it cold and/or moist outside?
Cold and high humidity will do that to you, escpacially on resin. It looks like the spray paint flows into small pools on the model and does not stick on the raised details. The paint that actually stays on the model takes foreever to dry and comes off with a cloth.
