I know, I know- waste of a Tomb King, putting him on one of those. But I was wondering what units, if any, he'd be able to join while riding a Sphinx.
From what I can tell, Lords and Heroes can join pretty much any unit, as long as they're the same type? So would a Sphinx King be able to join, for example, a unit of Necropolis Knights? What about another Sphinx? Chariots? (base size is the same)
And when a Tomb King or Tomb Prince is on a Warsphinx, do they count as Characters riding Monsters, or Monstrous Cavalry? I don't think it says so anywhere in the book...

Well if its any compensation you only can usually take a maximum of 3 warsphinx due to the max of three of the same unit type from special, you could potentially go beyond your maximum warsphinx by adding a tomb king(s) on (a) warsphinx AND since he counts as a character riding a monster, so either the rider or the monster could die without the other dying. That's 9 wounds between them. I do not think you can add him to a unit though.

You could potentially do a full-on Sphinx Bash, with a King on Sphinx, a Prince on Sphinx, and 3 basic Warsphinxes, along with 2 Necrosphinx if you wanted to.

Except a tomb King or Tomb Prince riding a chariot. They can join units of chariots as per the "And the Tomb Kings rode to war....." special rule.

A character on a monster may never join a unit and a character may never join a monster unit.
