So I am reading the GK book and seems many of the Hqs and "usual" independent character models dont have this. Like mordrak even though his ability reads like he is put into a unit and tps them on to the battle field first turn.
So I am wondering does this mean you can put him with a squad of purifiers and drop them in turn one, Moreover does it mean he and his Ghost night retinue, which is considered part of him, can join a Unit of paladins and drop in on turn one.
Also, you could call him a unit himself meaning other Independent characters could join him and drop in on turn one.

I am very confused and would like to have a good argument either way.
I tried looking through this forum a bit but didn't see much that pertained to this instance.

Many are characters or unique characters, but not Independent Characters.

Most of those are, in fact, units of one model.

Editing to add:
Mordrak though, is more akin to the Swarmlord and is not always a single model unit.

Mordrak cannot join a unit much like crowe. The only "squad" he can be in is the ghost terminators.

The enemy of my enemy is a bastard so lets kill him too.

Interesting ok, so can IC join him before the battle and have them teleport with him, since he is a one model unit that may take ghost knights.

Yes. Although Mordrak is not an IC and cannot join squads, other ICs (such as grandmasters, librarians, inquisitors, etc) may join Mordrak, because he is not a unit that only ever consists of one model (since his unit sometimes includes Ghost Knights). Sounds like you've got it right.

EDIT: Ninja'd

wow you guys are great, I have been trying to find an answer for that,

I got one more question for ya, If the librarian comes with mordrak, Technically that is the start of the game when the "first" reserve roll is made. Of course for most it doesn't effect anything, but if mordrak can take a lib with him, and if this lib. also has the summoning spell, then could mordrak and lib. be placed and then in the following movement phase the lib cast summoning and bring a legal unit to within 6 inches of him?

I was just brain storming and thought this up. Sure its cheese but i am sure someone else will try it on me at a tournament or friendly game.

No, it is done at the beginning of the Movement phase.

To clarify - You can't do the Summoning on the first turn because by the time the libby hits the table, it's past when you use the power.

The earliest yuo could use it is turn 2.

but there is still nothing stoping you from popping in and then having the libby cast warp rift and nailing a ton of vehicles with 1 auto pen per vehicle > and THEN in your next turn summon a dread knight or dread naught up to you to reek havoc upon they foes > BWAHAHA

When your wife suggests roleplay as a result of your table top gaming... life just seems right

I took my wife thru the BRB for fantasy and 40k, the first thing she said was "AWESOME"... codex: Chaos Daemons Nurgle..... to all those who says God aint real....

...remembering that Warp Rift is AP-, so it gets -1 on the Damage tables :/
