Howdy folks!

I've seen a couple threads lately concerning pricing for GW products (shocker, right?) and wanted to see about helping out.

I hope I'm not violating any rules by offering, if I am, I'll assume this'll be locked, -fragment missing-'d.

For anyone on the east coast USA and have been to Cold Wars in PA can verify, GW set's up a rather large booth in a separate building, along with PP, to do the wholesale gig.

I suppose my question would be, as I'm headed there in March, if anyone would like me to snag things for them...I can. I can say from experience the prices are great, 50% off in most cases. So I mean, if there's a tank you want that wouldn't normally buy, or that final squad you're putting off, I can see if they have the goods and pick'em up for you.

Of course we're not talking thousands of dollars here, I *am* after all, a married man.

Again, if this thread is out of line in any way...I apologize. I just saw an opportunity to help out, especially for those AUS players that are looking for some cheaper alternatives.

PM I guess...or reply here. I've got three weeks before I'm due to head out so...let me know!

This is really bad information. Think about it for a second: GW selling it's stuff at a historical convention? At less cost than they sell to independent stores? Selling Privateer?

That's not GW, that's Neil from the Warstore. He sets up in the seperate little shack next to the dealer hall, sometimes with another dealer out of New England area.

It's not 50% off, it's Warstores' standard 20%.

You can just order the same items at the same prices, from Warstore every day of the year.

Ummm...yeah. "If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is" comes to mind. Frankenberry, you might wish to fact-check, as Mikhaila's explanation sounds rather more logical.

And I go to Cold Wars most years.) I miss not having Historicon at the Host.

I go there too. There is plenty of GW for sale at the various dealer's booths, and in the flea markets, but I never heard of a separate wholesale only GW outlet. They do have a few wholesale only hours in the dealers hall that are only open for dealers, but thats it.
The last time GW attended CW was when the LOTR game was in full swing, they brought several custom LOTR tables and ran demos, with no actual GW sales area.

So I'm lying I guess.

Well, pointless thread then, wasn't under the impression that the prices I saw were that not worth it. I might be remembering differently, could be that it was 20%.

Although a baneblade only costing 50 bucks seems more like 50% to me.

You are correct that there are many dealers there who do give great discounts on GW.
I picked up Island of blood last year for 60 bucks.
Got some plastic WHFB regiments in the flea market for 20 each.

I was thinking more along the lines of just mistaken or misinformed.

You could easily have seen a baneblade for half off. It doesn't mean that GW set up to sell to everyone at wholesale - 5%.

It may or may not be GW officially...The Warstore does ring a bell, so it's probably them.

The point was that I can pick stuff up for people at a discounted price so that they don't have to pay whatever they pay for the model/s and shipping. I figured that someone might want to take advantage of it, however 'too good to be true' it might be.

20% or 50% that's still better than full price.

Not really, since they can just, you know, order directly from the Warstore.

Also: Cold Wars, ho! I'm already selling off model I don't use/want/need and saving money. Gonna hit the market, and the vendors... it's a vicious cycle.

Yeah...I'm stoked man. My dad went every year for the past 10 and has had a blast. Never had the money/time to go along until last year...and well, I'm going a second time if that's any indication.

I hadn't figured ordering from the Warstore over actually getting stuff from the convention. There I go, not thinking again.

Coldwars is good, but Templecon is better!

With the Warstore in addition to their normally discounted stuff, they've started bringing goodies to the convetions with them. At Templecon this year they had red bins full of OOP models, mostly resin and plastic, counters, resin bases, Testors Spray Paint, etc... All for $2 a peice. They alos had Piles of Fantasy Orcs for $10 a box and the old larger boxes to boot.

Flea Market is always great.

-Sometimes for bargains, from people wanting to lighten their collection. I general get hit by good deals. Last time a very nice gentleman had a huge FOW russian horde, using various companies models. Looked nice, but I don't play russians. We chatted a bit and he said "Take it all for a 100.00, " Suddenly I'm playng russians.)

-And for laughs. Some people have this idea that old stuff they had left over in their stores when they closed up 10 years ago is somehow "hot". They try getting over retail for banged up packages of miniatures that didn't sell at 75% during their going out of business sale.) And several guys always have GW at double to triple Ebay prices. They bring it back every year trying to unload it.

-One man's trash.....I love getting banged up scenery and fixing it up. 90% of the work is done.

Gonna be heading over Thursday ( I live in Delaware...so that's possible) and staying till Sunday. Which means I'm going to be super broke.

Yeah, the dirt mall aspect of the dealers hall is awesome. I haggled myself a whole new set of city terrain for like 90 bucks last year. Had like 20 buildings total.

If your trying to push a game, I've found that the better days for that are actually the off days of a convnetion. If the convention runs friday to sunday your prime days are friday and sunday, not the buissiest day which is saturday.

hmm.. didn't think of that.. sunday would actually work better for me .. but, it just seemed like Saturday would be the biggest day so more people = more exposure. But I guess it also means thats when all the big events are going and everyone's busy?

But then, I'm like 2 hours away, and getting there sunday morning will be a pain, would be a waste to get there and only be able to set up for a couple hours before the con closes up.

While its true that their will be more people there on Saturday, its also true that Saturday has several things working against it.

- Big Events, which mostly fall on Saturday
- Big Crowds
- The Casual, one day crowd

Edited for sound.

The causal one day crowd is the enemy of promoting a game at a show. They will eat up your demo time and very rarely buy anythgin.

Not that I'm an expert at giving demos but given the choice the best days by preference:

Friday
Saturday

I like Friday the best as that's when us...um...dedicated are there so I'd expect you'd get the best "bang for your buck" that day. Saturday will be good though you will get some walking by with comments of "oh, that's neat I wish I wasn't all booked up with games today!" etc...

Sunday is my shopping day and then I head home. Same with my small crew I go there with. There are some dedicated Sunday gamers and a demo in the dealer hall on Sunday could be quite successful. It just figures the one Cold Wars I'm going to miss is this one. Best of luck!

I LOVED the flea markets at Historicon when it was still at the Host. I picked up an 18"x12" box of Rogue Trader minis for $10. Marines, servitors, Rapier Laser Destroyers, Land Speeders, all kinds of great lead stuff. That's a pretty average deal for me! I did go to the Warstore's booth multiple times too, and picked up stuff for cheap and got to shoot the breeze with the Warstore guys. Swell folks.

Also, there are occasionally extra-cheap deals here and there from dealers. I found an Ork battleforce for $60 in the dealer's hall once. I really miss going down to Historicon every year with my dad, but since it moved out of Lancaster and got more expensive it just hasn't worked out.
