Land raider and terminators are way too expensive for 1500pts imo. try to ditch them.
Also I think you have too many drop pods which is extremely risky.Starting with half your army in reserve is a bad idea. I'd go for rhinos for the tacticals instead.
You'll also struggle with horde armies, try adding some more flamers, heavy bolters or my personal favorite choice,a whirlwind.

To admit defeat is to blaspheme against The Emperor.

Only 1 pod will be in reserve the other 2 will arrive turn 1 so it's not half the army, that being said I prefer a rhino for sterng are so your not stuck in 1 place for the game

his first round. but if he plays second and the land raider gets blown for whatever reason (brightlances!!!) he's left with only 2 land speeders.

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

I would drop one of the drop pods, and use a rhino to deploy one of your tactical squads. Its more flexible

He'stan is always a good bet.
Sternguard squad is a good bet
Ten man tac squads are good.

Keep in mind, 1/3 of your army is that land raider and termies, getting outnumbered badly could be an issue.

Other than that, I do love the Salamanders fluff wise, so good luck!

Gaasu has a good point. I play dark eldar and would have no problem taking out a land raider and 2 speeders on turn 1. I would strongly recommend dropping the terminators and the raider. I would also put your tac squads in rhinos and run them as follows:

10x men
meltagun
sergeant with combi melta
missile launcher

or flamers instead of melta for anti horde squads.

Twin-linked flamers and melta is awesome, but all of them have short range. with no long range fire support, your opponent will have 1-2 full turns to shoot you before you can shoot back. This is why I advise the missiles. They are free, combat squad on objective games with the missile sitting on your objective while melta/flamer in rhino goes after theirs. So you should be able to get by with only 2 tac squads but I'd still try to pick up a third with points saved from dropped land raider and terminators.

Yes, you could take pods. but then you're just feeding bits and pieces of your army to your opponent instead of shoving your whole list down their throat. Keep the pod for the sternguard though. Having one pod ensures their arrival on turn 1 without relying on a good reserve roll for other units. Also, split the speeders into separate squads. splitting your fire is good. splitting your opponent's fire at the same time is even better.

This is generally what I run at 1500.

Vulcan (of course!)

2x 10 man tac squads with
flamer, combi flamer, missile launcher, rhino
10 man tac squad with meltagun, combi melta, missile launcher, rhino

4x MM/HF speeders (a squad of 2 and 2 individual speeders)

3x Predators with lascannon sponsons (not really fluff oriented but very dependable at this level)

total 1480

Of course, if you are still set on running sternguard, then go ahead. They are a great unit for a vulcan list. However, don't use them like a squad of CSM termicide that comes in, blows up one thing, then dies. If you put them in a pod in other words, dont put them next to the Hammerhead/Fire Prism/Predator etc in the middle of their army but pop the transport to the side.

hope that helps

WOW! So many replies already!? I should post more of my army lists, considering my other armies I have planned!

I can see where you're going with the whole Rhino vs Drop pod thing guys, and I gotta admit, there's a lot of truth to that. Plus, the Termies do take up tons of space, alongside their Land Raider. Also, I have considered running an Ironclad, cause boy do I love my Dreadnoughts! Maybe throw it in a Drop Pod?

Starless and Gassu are pretty right, long range is hard to come by in this army, so missiles in Tactical Squads sounds great! A whirlwing would be fun, plus they're cheap!

I play sallies and dark angels. Do not drop the termys. Even at 1500 they are too useful. They can kill any monsters with the hammers and keeps them in check. My opponents run avitars, carnafexex, wraithlords. And etc, whith hammernators those monsters dont charge the termys. Even foot slooging works. I soak up so many wounds from firepower. Think, the firepower they soak keeps it off your other troops. I will run a land raider at1750, at 1500 i usually footslogem. Love the hammernators.
Just think whats more surviveable than hamernators at 200 points?

One of my favorite ways to run stern is as a mini dev squad. 5 srerng with two las cannons. They are cheap and effective. Thiswould allow you points to run two vindicators that would help with hoard armys. When i run sallies i am outnumbered all the time. Vindies help get the numbers even and still have the killing power two smash vehicles. Besides the stern guard havw two lass cannons.lol

One of my favorite matches had a wraith seer charging my stern guard. I pumped two lascannons and six hellfire rounds into him and delt him the two wounds i needed. Love the sterngaurd.

One more thing is when you team vulcan with hammernators they are a killing force to be feared.

@jamesavp - I'm still afraid of footslogging them due to them getting fired at, knowing my rolling. Twin vindicators sounds great too! i do love vindicators, but I also think running a Whirlwind would be a nice choice. (plus it's cheaper point wise. Not as strong, but still decent) If I were to run my Sternguard like that, I'd most likely keep the combi-weapons with them, to give them some close range shots like flamers or meltas. I've also thought of using a power fist in such a squad, to keep walkers AWAY from them.

Also, Dark Angels?! Sweet! I have a list for Dark Angels too, gonna post today!

If you're smart with smoke, those Termies will be devastating.

I would keep them.

Hi
Looks like some points costs are off.
But how about trying this list(proxy models you don't own for a playtest before purchase):

Vulkan He'stan .... 190

TROOPS:

Tactical Squad .... 220
Melta
Missile Launcher
Combi Melta
Rhino

Tactical Squad .... 215
Flamer
Missile Launcher
Combi Flamer
Rhino

Tactical Squad .... 220
Melta
Multi Melta
Combi Melta
Drop Pod

ELITES:

Sternguard .... 175
x3 Combi-Meltas
Drop Pod

FAST ATTACK:

Land Speeder .... 70
Multi Melta
Heavy Flamer

Land Speeder .... 70
Multi Melta
Heavy Flamer

HEAVY SUPPORT:
Predator, las sponsons 120
Predator, las sponsons 120

Thunderfire Cannon .... 100

Combat squad tac squad in drop pod on arrival, wtih combi-melta and melta in one, and 4+multimelta in the other. Or other combos(playtest it).

Drop vulcan with sterngurad; Split him off on landing. Crack open tanks/transport with sternguard combi-melta, and fry the contents with Vulkans heavy flamer. Assess the situation, sometimes this is not favorable(Ie, to many instakill shots flying around)

Combat squad "rhino squads"; zip around with melta and combi melta in rhinos, and leave 4+ML backfield on objectives(hovefully in a bolstered ruin) along with the thunderfire cannon, and/or behind the predators.(4 behind, with the ML poking out on the side)

Anyways good luck with your Vulkan lists. It is my favorite char, and I also prefer the mixed armor/drop pod lists. I usually drop dreadnoughts/ironclads in mine.

Infinity - 700pts
Ultras 5k+, Elysians (700pts)

@cassius - Thanks! I may try it! I wanted an Ironclad in here, but I don't have enough room for it
