So over the past 6 months i've been more of a painter and have found myself drawn to Grey knights and Space Wolves, i've now come to the crossroads where im finally ready to take the plunge and build an army, but only really have the bank to collect one.

Im looking for some advice, maybe someone who has played both or one of either can give some insight on how the army plays?

Please bear in mind im a complete noob to playing the game and im currently reading the rule book, go nice and simple terms would be awesome.

Thanks.

Well, the simplest solution is pick the one you like more. Do you like Vikings in SPAAAACE! or Medieval Knights in SPAAAACE!

Go with the theme and aesthetic you prefer.

"Did you ever notice how in the Bible, when ever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?"

Space Wolves, some people refuses to play against Grey Knights.

I know people that refuse to play against people with even one squad of long fang too. Doesn't really matter in the end as to what opponents do. Collect the model that is most interesting to you and or fluff. For sheer money sake, a GK army has the fewest models and can be quite cheap to field.

Space marine models in general are cheap however if you get them used and it is very easy to collect a "count as" space wolf force as well. Can always buy about 10 bucks of space wolf bits from other stores to wolf up your regular marines.

I got a draigo pally force of 2 dreadknights and 2 storm ravens that's about 14 models total at 2000 points (it's not very competitive but very fun for me fluff wise)

Assault on black reach as resulted in alot of cheap missle launcher marines on the net and elsewhere so you can just as easily make a wolf list that is quite competitive if you don't mind the missle spam.

/shrug.

I would tend to disagree rockerbikie. I see vastly more players that refuse to play Space Wolves "get more for paying less" Grey Hunters and Long Fangs than the rather more fairly balanced "get more for paying more" Grey Knights. Not saying some units such as Psyfleman could have been priced better, but compared to the abomination of the Wolves Book, Grey Knights are as even-handed as a chess game.
