I'm sorry, this is just sort of a venting thread on something i think is stupid. It's going to be nothing but a quick rant on something I don't lie, so if you hate whining or complaining, just skip over this thread. However, if you have had similar experiances, go ahead and share.
I don't understand why people selling things on eBay can be so stupid price-wise. If i am on ebay to buy discounted 40k models gently used so that i don't have to buy them full price, why would you try to sell your stormraven for the full retail value?! I mean, even if it is new in box, If i was willing to pay the full retail value for a stormraven, why wouldn't I just buy it from the GW website?! Why would I pay a full $62 for your stormraven or landraider or battlewagon or whatever when this other guy is selling his for $40? Or how about this guy, he's selling it for half price, with free shipping! Why would i pay you $35 for a chimera or trukk when this guy is selling his decently painted, already assembled one for ten?! And what's even worse is when people have painted them, and want to charge you ABOVE retail value just because you've painted it already. I mean, if you are a golden daemon winner, then yeah, sure, but if you think that I am going to give you $80 for your blood angels land raider just because you painted it red with grey treads, you are out of your mind. Or how about this, why don't you give me $70 for this nicely painted cadian command squad? I don't care if you are a golden daemon winner, i'm not paying you three times the retail value because you painted it nice. I could just buy a set off the shelf, and get them commissioned for $2-3 a base.
/End rant.

Can't blame people for trying to get as much money for their auctions as possible.
They probably wouldn't do it if they never sold them.
My pet peeve with some Ebays are people who list their stuff for 6 days. Sure it means more people are going to see it but I want to buy now!

It's pretty important to do that unfortunately, greatly increases your exposure.
@ OP, there's no point in getting in a huff about it, just ignore it and keep looking.

It goes well beyond Ebay. I regularly see stuff on swap shop that is overpriced imo. Lots of people around here seem to think that 30% off GW price is a good deal for used models. No thank you.

a nicely painted squad is worth alot more than 70.
you might not care but other people do. the cost of the model doesnt mean much. you realize people pay 200+ for single models if the paint job is good enough right?
who does commissions for 2-3 bucks a model? must be the shittiest looking models ever.

I think you'll find there is a sort of E-Bay-itis which is common to many people. It is the mistaken and ignorant belief that something on E-Bay is automatically cheaper than anywhere else, so whatever the E-Bay price is at is worth paying. many's the time I have looked at items such as CDs and seen the prices rocket above what new copies can be bought for from say Amazon and then postage on top. The amount sometimes charged for postage is another stupid one, some people seem to basically ignore it, say a StormBrick is £40 you'll see people buy them for £35 + £7 postage. I don't know if it's laziness or stupidity but a simple search can give you the realistic price to pay.

I put a massive army in the Swap Shop at more than 50% off. I have one responce from a person who didn't read the post.
Then about 100 PMs asking for the FW only stuff.
Dakka had it's chance. Now I'm going to trow it on Ebay for way WAY more and I bet someone will buy it in a few days.
Thereare several kinds of people who buy GW off Ebay:
The people who want a deal.
The people who want some nicelooking models.
The people who want cheap models to stip and paint themselves.
The list goes on.
I get what the OP means about high prices. I always go with a simple formula for buying stuff used:
NIB = Retail price. NOS out of box = 5% off. Assembled but not painted = NTY. Assembled and base coated = NTY.
Anything else.... you'd have to pay me to take it.

Unless I'm mistaken, American sellers can sell 40k on eBay at full US retail price, and Australians will buy it in a heartbeat thanks to GW's policy of "Go yourself, Australia".
Also, because some people just don't know any better.
Personally, I don't care if something is NIB, NOS, or unassembled; it's all the same to me and I'll pay as much as 70% GW US prices for it. I typically don't buy anything of any other condition, with rare exceptions. (I just got my hands on 7x Necron Wraiths at $12 US per model, painted & assembled- that's much better than the $20+ price each they're going for nowadays.)

That seems expensive to me... but only because I found some really sweet deals on eBay. Like, $80 AUD battleforces including shipping. But that's just me, and it seems like a very good idea to have a formula for buying... although mine's more extreme.

 I agree with you Painbiro.
I'm just super picky with my 40k purchases.
I feel that the people who buy a box of... say space marines, who doesn't even open the box shouldn't have to suffer a blow to his pocket.
On the other hand, someone who buys a box of marines and paints them in Testors and nail polish and assembles them so that they're all unable to find their bolter grips...
They don't get so much cash.

What are you considering retail? GW price? Why would anyone buy at GW price when they can easily (at least for US buyers) get it at 25% off with free shipping to boot? The only time I ever pay GW price is when buying at the FLGS. Maybe I'm misinterpreting what you consider "retail" in which case I take back this critique. I just regularly see people who do expect to get GW retail price (or very close to it) for NIB stuff.
