Just a quice question,
What do you think would happen if what makes a man an ogryn is done to a marine, or visa versa? AND THEY CAN SURVIVE

Ogryns are born ogryns. Becaus of the genetic difference, an ogryn woudl die in the process of being made a Marine. If women, whose genetic difference from men is insignificant in comparison ogryns versus men, can't be a marine, ogryns would have even less of a chance.

Do I sense... jealousy?
But seriously I think that is correct. A whole new gene-seed would have to be created to work with the ogryns genetic make-up. Not sure if they would be as effective anyway since their intelligence is already severely cut down.

I'm guessing the OP means what be the result if an Orgryn were implanted with gene-seed.
Well, I'm pretty sure an Ogryn would be incompatible with the transformation process

Not that I'm arguing in favour of Ogryn Marines, but, as the supposed products of adaptation to a heavy gravity environment, would they in fact be genetically different from humans? They are, after all still homo sapiens, after all. Now Warhammer 40,000 is not a hard sci-for setting, but in biological terms they would (correct me if I'm wrong, biologists) be classed as a specialised subset of humanity, not a distinct species.

The Ogryns are homo sapiens gigantus. Which means they are human, I even think you can have half-ogryns. Hell that would explain more than a few of my former co-workers and bosses.

Yes. This did not occur over one generation, but over thousands. They are a different species-- homo sapiens yes, but not homo sapiens sapiens. Homo sapiens gigantis

Evolution was only part. They were genetically modified to make that evolution faster. Human gene-science used to be vastly better.

They're also dumb as a box of hammers without extensive cybernetic reconstruction (BONE implants). Given that they are genetically radically divergent from humanity (and, on average, larger than a Space Marine, being some 2 1/2 to 3 meters tall), I don't think the extensive genetic reprogramming that Space Marines undergo would be at all beneficial, or even survivable, to an Ogryn,

I might be inclined to think that a morphological distinction, rather than a genetic one, which makes me wonder whether humans and Ogryns, or, for that matter Ratlings or Squats, could interbreed.

If this is the case, then fair enough, however I don't recall ever having read anything to that effect.

What thousands of years of selected breeding on high grav death worlds?
But what would be the point anyway, stupid, giant near immortals would be of little use compared to space marines Automatically Appended Next Post: English Assassin wrote:Melissia wrote:Ogryns are born ogryns. To biologists the definition of species isn't 'thats a tiger and thats a cow, they are different species', bonodo and chimpanzes are near identical to the untrained but are seperate species.
Humans are homo sapien sapien, ogryns are homo sapien gigantus, they are two seperate species, that doesn't mean that they cannot cross breed, just look at ligers or mules.

This thread isn't really supposed to realisticly portray what use Space Ogryns!!! would be, just what would happen. (Probably die from what i've read.

They'd die horribly.
Now, better question; what if the process of creating a Space Marine was altered to allow Ogryn to survive it?
Suddenly, super-giants in power armor with rapid-fire gatling missile launchers. EVERYWHERE.

It would be pointless.
Ogryns are not bright. They don't understand tactics. Other than having trouble fitting into vehicles, they don't like the dark spaces and have to be tricked to enter them.
Equipping them would be even more of a nightmare. They wouldn't fit into any currently existing Power Armor or Terminator Armor.
In short: it would be a waste. The only thing they would be good for, explosives could handle better and with less of a mess.

It'd be next to impossible to deploy them via drop-pod. They're (relatively) small, cramped and dark. And a Land Raider? It's like a shoebox on track.
Memorizing the Codex Astartes? Please. Most Ogryn have problems remembering their one-syllable names on most days.
